TalkOfSunCity: It served us well for many a year. We've had hundreds and hundreds of commenters with far more who just read along. We've watched the evolution and growth of the community/RCSC as it has embraced a return to the value and values that Sun City was founded on and around. It wasn't by accident, it happened because people living here cared enough to get involved. Thanks to all who participated. We know this country we live in is truly blessed irrespective of which party is in control. History has proven that time and time again. Better yet, we know Sun City, from the day it opened till now (soon to be 65 years old), has offered the vast majority of us moving here a quality of life unmatched. The most amenities at the least cost. We strayed as we tried to keep it a cheap place to live. It was a recipe for disaster. We are back on the right path. Unfortunately this site has become a cesspool of hatred and resentment. Too bad, but it is what it is. I encourage anyone trying to follow along, avoid the back and forth. There are a few who desperately need a foil, a punching bag to unleash their venom on. To the owners of TOSC, whoever you may be: Thanks for the opportunity to use this site to help create a sense of community, ownership, responsibility and accountability. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Bill for how warmly you welcomed me to this site last December, and to all the 10 other regular posters who followed in your footsteps. All based on a years old chat group. You showed how kind you were over the years on this site regularly, and without ever mentioning politics. Finally found this. I joined 12/5/23. This was your first post to me. You even used my real name. I'd welcome you to the site Josie, but that would be disingenuous on my part. For a happy hippie, you really need to work on your whole smiley face thing. By the way, i never gave you authorization to post my materials from this site on a Facebook page. No, it's all my fault. I proved he lied many times over time on this site. Needless to say he did not like it. Part 1 ↑ We disagree on a lot but i always try and remain civil. To be clear, i celebrate the Sun City way of life every day. I have no malice towards anyone. To further compound my doubts, i've been involved with a Facebook group, Sun City Chat Arizona for a couple of years now. The past year i've helped out as an administrator. I try to post at something at least daily, sometimes more. Mostly history, but also community events and stuff. This past weekend, i did something strange; i grabbed a screen shot of Mad's Alfred E Neumann (of "What Me Worry" fame) and asked the simple question about Sun City: Does Anyone Care? It was a test and honestly gang, most of you failed. I got 11 responses and even less likes. No, i don't care about likes, i care about whether the members of that site care enough to respond. There simply was no added value in trying to build a sense of community when it occurred. There's thousands of political sites out there to comment on. Hey scj. Thanks for asking. In spite of the dribble you see posted above my goal following the RCSC elections last year was and still is to slip off into the sunset. This site (TOSC) served its purpose for years and it was time to walk away. It's still my intent but the stupid exhibited by some keeps dragging me back. Anyway, good to see you still kicking. Unfortunately TOSC is a mere shell of its former self and the posters on it have an agenda far beyond the purpose it served for so many years. Hating Sun City and hating the way of life we all enjoy is such an empty and hollow way to live. I on the other hand love, love, love Sun City. Love my sobriety and all it has given me. Love the fact we actually have an election coming where one party celebrates life with a newly energized candidate who isn't older than dirt and can articulate clearly. Thanks for filling me in. I've slipped in to read TOSC periodically but like NextDoor, when it takes to long to get to the real subject matter and even that gets buried in national politics, I lose patience as there is just too much else to do, so if there aren't clear headlines about issues at hand, I just don't bother. I imagine the SC Facebook group is better, but I don't want another screen time eater and I know Facebook would be a real rabbit hole for me. Anyway, "see" ya around the sites and thanks for all the historical perspective you impart.
That's an odd thing to say about Nextdoor. They remove any political commentary on the main feed. That's why groups are created. Everyone knows ND is an ultra left leaning site so democrat posts will stay up longer, but they do take them down. It's the ads on ND now. You have to scroll thru about 5 or 10 till you get to an actual post.
Yes, and I'm glad ND pulls National Politics posts since that's not what ND is for, but as you said, sometimes it takes a while before it gets pulled since it seems some folks don't like going to the Group and prefer to slip in political commentary into the main feed anyway, often stating, "I know this will get pulled, but...." You are certainly correct about the ads being quite the distraction now--real overkill. Haven't noticed the "ultra left leaning" aspect though. Are there actually stats showing the length of time various posts are left up after being reported? That would make a very interesting graph to share on social media....
Just something I have noticed personally. I doubt there are stats, however if you research ND all involved financially are very liberal. Most social media sites are. And now with Zuckerberg's admission it makes me wonder just how much censorship there is. Google is another left leaning site. I can search on google and duck for the same exact phrase and get very different responses.
To further explain when I opened my FB page there was a post with a blacked out photo stating not to open as it was violent content. I clicked on it and then had to agree to see this violent content.
