I assume the https://suncityaz.org/ is the home page for the site... note that when you click "RCSC" in the menu bar at the top on that page you get the https://suncityaz.org/rcsc/ page which describes the RCSC entity (IMO, not obvious I might add... I would hope the RCSC page gets changed to better show it's purpose for existing).
What a ridiculous waste of money. So these IT folks are dinking around (I guess they have nothing else to do) to make a bad website worse. We do need better technology. SCW has a simple, straightforward site with a ton of information. You can join meetings via zoom and interact. Tom said that money we used to pay them for this should have gone to the 17 mil deferred maintenance fund. So we have paid employees working on something we have contracted a company $300,000 to come in and fix. How is this helping our seniors? I just got my neighbor who is 83 to understand the old site for golf tee times. I am sure I will be going down there several times a day now, which is fine for me because I adore him. What about the folks who have no-one.
LOL! I am nowhere as sweet as you. You use your PTO time?? Wow, I would never have done that, but I was a workaholic and had about 14 weeks racked up when I retired. Was grandfather in on the PTO max. Nope, not going to do that. Add up all the sneaky things the BOD has done over the years with no one calling them out and you get what we have today. This is our money they are playing with and with a 17 mil $ deferred maint. issue we can't afford to let employees "play" while we have a $300k signed contract for a company to come in and re-do what they did. What a waste. There is a newbie on another platform that said "that's not why I bought here" in one discussion. Well I will do my best to make people aware.
Personally, I like the new website... it's upbeat and includes info the old site didn't. Is every page what I'd have done -- of course not -- there's 30,000 people in SC and I suspect many have a different vision of what the website should be, what info it should make easy to get, what things it should make easy to do, etc. The rest don't care or will never even use it. Regardless of whether you like the aesthetics, does the new site serve your needs and is it logical to use? My recollection is the SCW website evolved over time into what it is today because the SCW people wanted it to. Who knows what it cost -- maybe a lot, maybe not. Meanwhile in SC, the forces that be were proudly wearing their "we don't need no stinking no computers" badges of courage. Wasn't the original RCSC website developed in-house by people who had other responsibilities and didn't have much experience designing websites? Wasn't the impetus to do a website at all pretty much just to shut up people with "Chihuahua syndrome*" -- you know, complainers like you an me. We nagged them into it. It got marginally better over time, but never got supported by a budget and personnel to make it respectable -- thus technology and expected features evolved faster than they could make improvements. Zip Recruiter says the average salary for a website designer is around $60k and website implementer is over $90k/yr, both + benefits. We probably don't need these on staff as permanent employees, so jobbing it out for $300k isn't outlandish IMO. * From the Urban Dictionary -- Chihuahua syndrome: A weaker, smaller person or country that has delusions of being big and strong and thus tries to intimidate others by barking constant threats, which usually serve little more purpose than just to annoy all those around. This behavior is often frustratingly tolerated because a violent reaction against such an obviously weaker, smaller person or country would seem immoral and inhumane. Still, sometimes you just want to kick the f ' ing thing across the room.
There are many levels of expertise in dealing with websites and computer infrastructures. I am hoping that RCSC is accessing the right personnel for the right task. In house personnel are probably trained to do certain things but you need an experienced programmer to make changes to a website. It is probably not cost efficient for RCSC to have a programmer as a staff member, but I don't know for sure about that. Maybe we do have one. Let's find out more information so we are more fully informed.
Now that is so stinkin cute! Is Bill whispering to you what to say? Dither is used in the wrong context here. You cannot "make a dither". A dither is not a thing. You can be dithering, you can be in a dither. Example: My 83 year old neighbor will be in a dither when he tries to use the RCSC Website for golf again as it is so much more confusing now. verb verb: dither; 3rd person present: dithers; past tense: dithered; past participle: dithered; gerund or present participle: dithering 1. be indecisive. "he was dithering about the election date" Similar: hesitate falter waver vacillate oscillate fluctuate change one's mind be in two minds be ambivalent be indecisive be unsure be undecided procrastinate delay stall drag one's feet dawdle dally hum and haw pussyfoot around noun: dither 1. informal indecisive behavior. "after months of dither they had still not agreed" 2. a state of agitation. "buses are jammed and dirty and everyone is in a dither over taxis"
Also very stinkin cute. And now you are mimicking the two other hate filled foul mouthed 75 year olds speaking like they are 12. How sweet. When can I expect the death threat? Kick as hard as you can. Someone told me to get used to the communism here as it could very well be a reality in the whole country soon! Ouch!!! Dang!!! Urban dictionary, the go to place when you can't think up snark on your own. Heil!!
HH, our views of the world and politics most likely differ a lot. I'm ok with that. You're free to think as you like, as am I. I would like to enjoy this forum as a spot for civil discourse and sharing news/views. Sadly the lack of civility makes that annoying -- hence the chihuahua reference. But IMO there's nothing "communistic" going on here in TOSC. As to the future of the whole country -- most communist regimes are autocratic (if not outright dictatorships). But most politicians aren't known for fair play even in democracies, so I agree that something other than democracy may become our reality after the upcoming election is eventually resolved.
I don't like what I see happening here. I don't agree with most of it. Just because you disagree does not mean you get the right to degrade me, but if you choose to I will just consider the source and keep posting my opinions. No clue who you are or how long you have lived here, I have been coming here since around 1980 and it was extremely nice. Moved here in 2001 and have seen a horrible down trend in the BOD and the town itself. I think it's pretty shady dealings re library, T-Bird Bldg, IT contract, Grand Bldg purchase, $1million indoor dog space and so much more kept from members until after they happen. If you are good with that type of government here in Sun City that's fine. I am not. It's funny you mention lack of civility and only reference me when others have referred to me as an "orange anal cyst lover" and told me "no one gives a shit who you are" among so many other things. Take the blinders off.
So let me ask your expert opinion. Do you think RCSC website issues should be a back and forth discussion on Nextdoor? All the problems, what people are saying thru the suggestion site on RCSC website, or should this be private communication in the office or via email or phone? In case you are not familiar with ND it's a community based site where pretty much anyone in the area can view, even those outside SC, ore even in another state
My opinion re: the new website is that the RCSC should pay attention to criticisms/suggestions from both sources (although I personally find some of Nextdoor less than creditable sometimes) -- but I'll primarily be commenting via the website, exchange meetings, etc. since that's a more direct route. The SC community is comprised of a wide range of users with vastly different backgrounds, cultures, interests, needs and technology expertise. Designing a good website for everyone is not exactly a trivial task. Critiquing a website isn't trivial either. Often one man's trash is another man's treasure. Since you sorta asked, I've resided in SC for over 25 years and have participated in this forum since it's inception as well as the two Independent forums which preceded it. So the issues are not new to me -- I was witness to a lot of the RCSC's shenanigans -- eg, changing the quorum from 100 to 3500, the roof collapse at Sundial, the PIF wars, the fiascos surrounding the new Fairway center, changing 4 member meetings a year to 1, disbanding committees, law suits, lies about title 33, et al. We used to only have to deal with RCSC/golf/bowling alliance but now there's the added political partisanship element overlaying rational discourse. I don't respond well to rules that have little merit and the RCSC's tactics that often treat the members like children -- so I keep my involvement to a minimum. I've found, both in my professional life and private one, that constantly criticizing everything seldom achieves one's desired goals... thus I try not to exhibit the Chihuahua syndrome very often.
So we have lived here about the same number of years and saw the same things. I have been coming here since 1980, sometimes for 6 weeks at a time, minimum 1 week about 5 times a year, 20 years longer. I got to see the good times in Sun City. These are not the good times. I will continue to express my opinions like them or not. Bill's very first post to me on the very day I joined set the tone from then on. "I'd welcome you to the site Josie, but that would be disingenuous on my part. For a happy hippie, you really need to work on your whole smiley face thing. By the way, i never gave you authorization to post my materials from this site on a Facebook page. You might want to check with those attorneys you've hired to sue the RCSC on whether you can legally do that without permission. Oh wait, you're moving out of SC because you hate it here. Oh wait some more; how can you be the happy hippie when you are so busy hating on stuff? Life's mysteries." BPearson, Dec 6, 2023 All his minions followed suit. It was like a pack of badgers attacking a small mammal. You all could not break me like the others. Tom McLain was one I remember in particular. If you have been on this site for that long and have not acknowledged that behavior, you really must have blinders on. I could not care less if you want to be a "Chihuahua", but you put it on me because you didn't like what I said. Frankly if the gross and disgusting evil things Dave and Bill have said to me don't stop me I doubt you can. So knock your socks off and join the cool kids. Most of the folks here remind me of the bully in A Christmas Story picking on the kid with the glasses. Have fun with that.
Today’s Exchange, Monday, September 9, 2024. There were no questions, comments, etc. about the redesigned RCSC website, the new one being constructed over the next few months or a $300,000 contract supposedly for it to be done. AND Proposed bylaw & board policies change documents to be presented and discussed at the RCSC board Special Session, Monday, September 16, 2024, 9am, Sundial Center, 71 pages, were handed out. (YES, members are allowed to speak to the agenda item proposed bylaw changes.) Access online here: https://suncityaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/bylaws-changes.pdf
Janet, this reply has nothing to do with your quote, it’s stuck here for some reason. Eyes, I just looked at the by laws revision and the new ones are only 35 pages, which oddly enough was the same amount as the the revisions presented two years ago with similar language from the by laws committee, to say plagiarism might be appropriate, but I guess this is the highest form of flattery. I do have a couple of suggestions at the monthly Board meeting.
Look at the pdf document again and note in the top left hand corner of each page you will see, Page # of 71. (Page 1 of 71, Page 2 of 71, etc. floats as you scroll through all the pages.) Perhaps you counted the total number of sheets of paper of the proposed bylaw change handouts at the Exchange meeting? Handouts are dual sided copies of originals.
Come on, Dave, we were paid very well for our work! I don't even remember donuts being provided. Seriously, in my opinion, our work was always the "property" of RCSC once we presented them and they could do what they wanted with it. It would have been approved if Darla Akins hadn't changed her vote at the second reading. Once I asked her why she did that. She said she saw some problems with it but didn't explain further. Blame her. Facts, only the facts, sir. I haven't looked at the document yet but I am glad our long hours of work are being utilized. I don't take offense at that. I'll get busy reading the new draft. I am particularly interested in seeing what changes are in the Board Policy about the Foundation to see if they incorporated the attorney's written opinion in them. I won't be at the meeting to comment. Instead we are going on a driving trip through Western Nebraska. Looking forward to it. Not sure how good of internet reception I will get at times. Your good fortune!
