Puttin Things OFF Till Later -- is Good !

I have found that with retirement (agree - and yes, I am so busy at times - - I had more time when I actually had a job ! -- --Over-programmed after retirement. ) HOWEVER - - I have also learned to either Put Things OFF (that I feel I should do) and/ or Just Do Not Do At All !. I guess I turned my way of thinking to "what must be completed and done vs. it would be nice if it were done."

    Similar to Wants and Needs.
Do I really Need this ? Or do I just Want It ?

Agreed. Someone once told me to look at each day like a pie and to figure out which person or activity deserves the biggest pieces, and that giving someone just a tiny sliver might not be doing anyone much of a favor, so you might just have to wait for next day's pie, and maybe it will be of a flavor better suited to the person anyway.

    Thought for today:

When you resent someone, it's like taking poison and expecting the other person to die. As seniors, if you haven't resolved relationship issues, it is time to do so.

What have you done today for your body, mind, and soul! We took a nostalgic drive in Southern IA where Glen grew up. Really felt good to his soul.

Years and years ago when I was a stay at home Mom -- I had a scrap book for each of my children -- (actually - - when all complete -- the series of scrap books equaled about 10 per child). They were the big books with hard covers and approx. 100 beautiful plain pages in them. I not only put pictures in them I also put favorite cards and "papers of art and writings from their own creations" in them. Then I would write and write and write, detail by detail their growing up years -- everything from their first crawl to their first words thru infant years to high school. ..their goods, their bads, their all of it...and included thoughts and happenings of our "extended family", as well... A treasure !
I took my eldest his set of 11 scrap books - - the weight was 6-8 lbs. per book. -- Lots of writing per book, lots of stuff & lots of Kiddo's history !
I believe that was so long ago -- I did not even call it Journaling -- I just said "writing in their scrap books".
Yes, agree -- it is wonderful Therapy ! ! :calm:

I always tell my ADULT children -- if I ever die -- please keep all of your scrap books -- -so many hours went into them... history of them !
It was my stress release as well as an enjoyable time of "record keeping" and saving all that stuff !

Ever hear the expression, "Look at what the cat dragged in?" (Dead mice, etc.) From my Still Speaking devotions this morning I read, "Mostly you wish they wouldn't. But here's the thing—once a door is open, it's open; whatever comes in, comes in. There'll be all sorts of surprises, amazing gifts. There'll also be some bloody little messes to clean up now and then. But you'll learn a lot about what a cat thinks a treasure is, even if it would never have occurred to you to want it.

What messes have you had to clean up in your lives that have turned into a blessing?

Sadly domestic cats kill a billion birds every year. They just kill them for play. I've seen it many times in my neighborhood. For those who say oh well, it is nature... it's not. They are a man introduced predator to birds, nature did not create this situation. Birds have many other predators to deal with. I've had to install a large webbing to keep cats out of my yard with a tall fence when I had a bird feeder. Please don't let your cat run free.

Cynthia -- so true. Domestic cats still have the animal instincts and cats really should not run free for their protection as well.

I once was told that living in Sun City is like having a holiday every day and therefore, some feel that holidays are ho-hum. It is important that we not let that happen in Sun City. Last year before Christmas I had a special in-home party for people from my church because there are a lot of people who do not get invited to a holiday party. They were thrilled to be invited, and we had a very good event with a time to share memories of what it was like to celebrate Christmas before Sun City days.

    I love thee Holidays ! ! Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter...all of them !

Christmas is my favorite...When I first moved to Sun City I invited all the neighbors I could ACTUALLY SEE from my house...I felt if I could see them - they could see me..... a good way to protect your home -- also -- If you know your neighbors, they are helpful to watch your home ! ! Also invited several other neighbors up & down the block, who I would see at times around and about. Some of my neighbors had lived here for years and until my Christmas Party....they did not know each other...WOW -- So I have made this my little annual Greet the Neighbor Christmas Party -- my neighbors enjoy - - and some of the older ones, may not go to anything other than my little event.
    :xmas:

I expanded my party invites and now also have a "friends from the pool Christmas party" -- love that, some of us do not go out to the outdoor pools in the winter...
    :xmas:

    AND Halloween --
    :smiley_simmons:
-I recently did my first annual costume party - - WOW -- some of us old guys & gals know how to dress-up for the event ! Love those Holidays -- especially all that yummy food that is a perk ! :joyous:

Natch -- - I always invite my family over for the Big Holiday Meals-- the Only Time I use my oven and stove during the year !

Today I am helping my daughter with a garage sale. As when I've had garage sales in Sun City, I have found them to be the best way to get acquainted with neighbors. If you are having trouble getting acquainted in your name, you might want to try to have a garage sale!
