Agree Josie. Our format needs to match Sun City and its unique structure. When looking at other communities to compare to we need to compare apples to apples. We are unique and need to make decisions based upon supporting our strengths and culture. Self governance is how we were built and need to do everything we can to support our community.

With all due respect, I feel you are missing the point. The urban planning process applies to many types of communities and recreational facilities. The Master plan must take into account the unique attributes of the subject community. So, I disagree with the conclusory remark that Sun City is not like anybody else so a master plan does not work for us. Have a great weekend and be sure to go to the Board meeting and the Annual Members Meeting,

I get the point. For years all I have heard is SC is unique in our self-governance. Most other cities and towns have mayors, city councils, etc. So after 40 years you are now saying another form of government should be in place? Dare I say 'Youngtown'? I have many issues with Sun City, some based on personal experiences and some are just general. All the secrecy of the last year with the GM and BOD, plus the financial issues and deferred maintenance sent a lot of folks reeling.

Now we have another group of former boards/committees, who knows who you all are off in the rabbit hole making plans without ANY member input. Personally I don't think anyone in SC is qualified to make any changes to anything. People seem to think they are though so explain to me how this place has deteriorated to the extent it has. Why are members pissed? I know why. We are ignored. Just stop everything except regular maintenance and upkeep, hire a consultant to make suggestions and put Sun City back together again.

The Board and folks here have been spinning their wheels for over 15 years and it just keeps getting worse. This is the perfect example of insanity! It absolutely amazes me that so many who think so highly of themselves are too insecure to ask for help/input. If not one of you has learned it can't be fixed from within that does not say much for your so-called love for Sun City.

Not at all insecure and resent the implication that those of us who care about the issues are.
I have no idea what you’re talking about in regards to making plans for Sun City in a rabbit hole. The former board members that I read on this site are fairly astute in their knowledge of the community, its processes, as well as its shortcomings. Since there seems to be a great resentment towards those who have served this community in a public position, perhaps it’s time for you to step up and take your turn being a board member. Place yourself in the position of being responsible for the decisions and actions necessary to make Sun City the best it can be, and deal with the fact that you are only one of nine people who can decide the direction for the future of the community. Then you will have the right to call out those who have done their duty to serve the members of this community.

This community works on self governance. There are no CC&R’s in Sun City that dictate property condition such as color of homes, additions to property, or who must perform modifications. Other communities have described actions as to what can and cannot be done to a property to prevent the owner from doing modifications that could be considered unsuitable for the neighborhood. It’s because of the ability to perform property modifications at will, some modifications are not necessarily acceptable to all. This is an aging community with its residents aging as well. Most cannot afford to remodel their home to accommodate a new facade or outward appearance. What we do have is a community of people who volunteer, give of their services to others, and support each other in many different ways. Yes, Sun City is showing its age in many different ways, but it is still a well run community that has consistently shown it’s a great place to live and thrive. There’s no need for an amendment to change the structure of the governing body as to how it handles its projects and processes. The devil is in the details of how this amendment would change the system of governance in this community and I feel would be a detriment to the community as a whole. Just my thoughts and opinions on the proposed amendment and still do not recommend endorsement of the proposal. In reading the proposed amendment, it’s well written and has a great deal of thought behind it. I just don’t feel it’s the right direction to go in for Sun City, now nor in the future.

If people would take the time to read and at least try to understand what I and others are saying you might realize we are agreeing with you. I am not ashamed to admit I am not qualified to run a city. I am not afraid to say it appears those who step up to volunteer are not either. Remember what Sun City looked like 20 years ago both aesthetically and member involvement. Look at it now. People in charge are loving this city to death. How much money has been spent hiring contractors to do things that just upset the members? John told me to go walk Lakeview which I have done many times as I already said, yet they want to plop a 2 story concrete building right there ruining the one peaceful area in SC.

I think it was Stephen M. who is trying to get people to understand we need a professional to come in and evaluate what has gone wrong and what to do to fix it. That would be money well spent. As far as the rabbit hole it's where folks go to hide and do things in secret (eg libraries and now the by-law amendments), and then wonder why members don't trust those in charge.

This is not a true statement. Yes I can paint my house purple, I cannot add a golf cart storage area, shed, pergola. There are workarounds though, and as a general rule CCR violations depend on your neighbors. My neighbor has a shed. I don't care and that's becoming the mantra here as more snowbirds and landlords buy here, but the main reason is members are not valued as stated by the board member at the last meeting I watched. It's not their job to keep the members happy.

Whoever it was who said it’s not their job to keep members happy in my opinion, doesn’t understand the role and responsibilities of being a member of the board. Yes, it means there is a scope of ownership to being a board member, but there is also a need for board members to be aware of the importance of their role in maintaining the integrity of being accountable to the members. At least that’s how I felt my role was when I was on the board. I always tried my hardest to be responsible for decisions that affected the members and be cognizant of how those decisions affected the community. I don’t know what context such a statement was made and do not condemn or condone it on the surface. I do hope the situation is resolved to the betterment of Sun City as the members deserve a board of directors who lead the community forward while keeping members needs in mind.

Start at 42:35. If you want more context on how this board feels listen a little before and after that mark. Not many go to meetings, some watch and those that hear things like this walk away feeling very disappointed. Also negativity spreads like wildfire. Then there was/is the nice paragraph you, a former board member, wrote about me. It must have bothered you or you would not have deleted it. I did post it to a private group on ND removing your name of course, but leaving my name in. Where in the world did you get the idea you could speak about a person like that and post it publicly? And you question what's happening in SC.

Also there might be a medical emergency that requires more than two EMTs.

When I write my opinion, it’s just that. Being a former board member has no bearing on my opinions or decision to post. If I am making a statement in regards to being a former board member, I preface the comment as such. Being a former board member means I ran for office and honored my position. Nothing more or less. I was a board member during an extremely difficult time and honor the fact that I was out voted most of the time. Bill and I tried to put the community first and foremost. We were only 2 votes in the a group of nine. Although we sought to be a voice for member inclusion, we were not able to sway the other directors to our position. We tried to get issues presented to the membership on numerous occasions, only to be out voted. I would hope the board members of today are more member focused and see the value of involving the members in the board discussions as they move forward. It’s the only way for the community to stay vibrant and desirable, now and the future. Dave and I also served with Bill. He arrived towards the end of my second term, so our ability to affect change was very limited.

You missed the point. I was referring to the hit piece on me. The folks I shared it with were shocked a former board member would write something like that and still expect to be respected in the community. You know, like Dave and Bill and their thug talk. I think they may be Soprano wanna-bees.

Respect in the community has nothing to do with being a former board member. It has to do with actions of being a member of the RCSC and Sun City. I conduct my own actions by my own code of conduct and how I interact with others in my community. I make an effort to be honest, courteous and respectful to others when interacting with fellow residents. It’s all I can ask of myself so I expect the same from others when out and about.
As far as writing a hit piece, I remember writing about you in a way that requested you to consider making your comments and accusations in a manner more respectful to myself and others. I did not make death threats or threaten physical harm or violence, so to suggest it was a hit piece is offensive and an exaggeration. I further suggested seeking additional resources to help you in your search for whatever it was you were seeking. Exasperation with constant badgering had me author a post that advised the subject to seek out ways to improve their life and get out of mine. I felt there were boundaries crossed that were unacceptable and so I replied accordingly.
The topic of this discussion is “Say No”. At this juncture, I say no to any amendment that would change the language, as written, to the current version of the RCSC bylaws. I am in a great deal of pain today, so continuing to reply is just not in my best interest. Have a great day.
