If things are so bad then why has gold prices dropped the last few days more than $65?

You would think if the economy was really that bad the price of gold should be skyrocketing?

 

Nobody should be gloating about the stock market dropping. It's tragic for way too many people and especially those approaching their retirement years. It's why i said it will come back, the questions are; when, how fast and how many seniors will be hurt by it.

As far as gold Tom, really: "Historically, Gold reached an all time high of 3167.77 in April of 2025. Gold - data, forecasts, historical chart - was last updated on April 4 of 2025." The fact some folks cashed in at the highest price point in history is meaningless.

 

If the price of oil is dropping why is gas over $3.59?
Why are mortgage rates still high?
Why is inflation up?
Why is the dollar tanking against the Euro, Pound Sterling and Swiss Franc? The dollar’s ability to be the reserve currency worldwide could be in doubt and replaced by the Euro. That would be quite a blow to this country that we might not recover from.

As usual your view of the economy is myopic at best. I bought a dozen of England’s Best eggs for the quoted price here two weeks ago. Hardly an indication of anything. Coffee wil be up as well as whole beans, cocoa is through the roof so steal your children’s Easter candy while you can.

I have just finished watching a fascinating documentary entitled “Theologians Under Hitler,” about the role of some religious leaders in Germany from 1933 (when the Nazis took power) until the end of WWII. Some of you might guess where this is going, let me now say that the film was made in (as I recall) 2005, so well before the current political world was in place. Lest you think it was made by the Communist Party or the Democratic Party or some other godless, radical leftist organization, well, it was made by the Methodist Church, who some folks night consider to be a godless, radical leftist organization, but most of us, I imagine, do not. The film details a movement in Germany called “Christian Nationalism,” a counterpart easily found in America these days, and how church leaders, from the pulpit, advanced its ideas. I was interested the other day seeing images and discussions of spiritual leaders in America recently rushing the kiss Trump’s ring, and the documentary details how some Germans at that time (1930s) felt that the Germans were god’s chosen people and that he had picked Adolph Hitler to restore them to their rightful place by his side. Finding events and scenes analogous this in today’s American landscape is easy enough to do. The film asks two questions, “Could it happen again?” and, “Does the church of today retain the ability to recognize profound evil?” Good questions.

 

Early in 2024 Biden Admin wanted to eliminate gas cars by 2035. Now democrats are setting Tesla’s on fire.

Why? Because Elon and his DOGE team are finding billions of our tax dollars are being spent on ridiculous studies. Democrats must like wasteful spending.

For example 4/4/25, agencies terminated 63 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $124M and savings of $39M, including a $1.25M @HHSGov marketing consultant contract for “Google AdWords management” and a $1.9M @StateDept consulting contract for “global advisory and support services” for the Republic of Palau in the Micronesia region.

Good little Democrats are out all over the country protesting Elon for finding wasteful government spending. Why? I imagine most of the people who bought electric cars in the first place are Democrats because Joe and Kamala said to. Gas cars bad. So, I would also guess a lot of these people setting cars on fire and defacing them are Democrats doing harm to other Democrats, catching a Republican here and there.

Another favorite day of discovery: Good work by @US_IMLS @Sonderling47 cancelling $25M in wasteful DEI grants for $15M in savings, including: -$265K for Queens College in New York to research “why BIPOC teens” read Japanese comic books -$250K to erect “LGBTQ+ historical markers” across Ohio -$140K for the University of South Carolina to create “safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ individuals” in libraries -$400K for the University of Tennessee to study “LGBTQ+ library users’ metadata” -$105K to California Association of Museums to address “systemic racism” in museums -$6.7M for the California State Library to “enhance equitable library programs” -$1.5M to Connecticut State Library system to “integrate social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion” into their daily work

The story you posted uses the phrases “The radical left,” and “deranged maniac” but the article does not suggest who the perp was so how do they know any of those things about that person? Oh, right common sense told you that this was a radical left deranged maniac and probably a democrat to boot.

 

Who do you think is doing all this stuff. Did you even watch any of the protests that were held across the country yesterday against Musk? Many were interviewed. Many did not know why they were protesting. Who set the Tesla's on fire?

Democrats have become deranged. They loot, burn down Minneapolis, tear down statues, burn cars. the right boycotts Budweiser.

Who is doing the anti-Musk stuff is (opinion) folks who feel very strongly that he is one of the masterminds behind trump's crazy and often unconstitutional executive orders. It's no surprise to me that a lot of this is happening in Canada, not because Canada is a hotbed of deranged left wing democrats but because trump and musk have declared economic war on their country and this is seen as one way of fighting back. I am NOT saying I think it is a good idea.

 

This stuff has been going on for years Carp. It's nothing new. Who tore down the statues and when did that happen. The riots after Floyd. When did those happen. How about the bloody riots in Chicago at the 1968 DNC. This has been happening for decades. You can't blame Trump and tariffs. 50 countries have come forward to negotiate.

 

Maybe Rick Warren, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Bakker, Joel Osteen?

What about the peaceful marches after Floyd, since you are from the Chicago area you might realize the Chicago cops were always physical and Daley handled the whole situation incorrectly.
