Great question JTFM, i went up and talked to the off duty officer (yes he was out of uniform and carrying). No he didn't respond to my questions, just smiled. It's all good.

I both watched and listened to the exchange between the gm and POSSE commander. Dude, this didn't just happen, it's been ongoing for six months. And to be really, really clear (go back and listen if you have to) the POSSE commander said this was "his board's decision." While on the other side of the tables we were told point blank by the board members themselves; "this was the first time they had heard there was a problem." With those facts firmly in place, tell me who's rendition of the "truth" you are buying into.

This is exactly what happens when the board divorces itself from the decisions they used to make. Bill Cook told us point blank, he "didn't think it was that big a deal." Obviously to him it wasn't, to the POSSE it was because at least their board members knew all about it. Hope that helps.

BTW, thanks to jeb for citing the exact time the comment was made. The POSSE used to be wired to the Sheriff's dept. Now we know they've found a way around it. Nothing better than just the facts maam (or in this case man). Rest in peace Sgt Joe Friday.

Sun City Indepedent article online today
RCSC hires golf course patrol in Sun City
    To determine severity of issues
Recreation Centers of Sun City officials hired off duty law enforcement to patrol the North Golf Course, 12650 N. 107th Ave., after hours for a week.

That action comes hot on the heels of a dispute between RCSC and Sun City Posse officials about patrols on the corporation’s courses. When they did not receive a response to their request, made initially in March, Posse officials suspended involvement in RCSC activities, including traffic control at concerts, until a resolution could be found.

“RCSC hired off duty law enforcement officers to assess the severity of transient activity on our golf courses,” Joelyn Higgins, RCSC communications and marketing coordinator, stated in an email. “We have chosen off duty law enforcement as they are highly trained, certified and authorized to perform law enforcement duties, such as the trespass or arrest of any person who should not be on our properties.”

She added this is a short-term solution to assess the severity of transient activity. RCSC officials believe this was the most prudent and safe path in addressing the situation.

“Going forward we will work with Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to develop a plan to address any issues identified by the patrol that was just announced,” Higgins stated. “MCSO has been very clear that they should be RCSC’s first line of defense against any criminal activities.”

Higgins said it was never RCSC officials’ plan to have the relationship with the Posse severed.

“We actually felt that the recent quarterly meetings between our groups and MCSO were taking the relationship to the next level,” Higgins stated. “However, RCSC fully plans on reestablishing this valued relationship.”

Fascinating commentary on the Sun City Advocates blog where a former board member has stepped up in a big way and introduced speculation this whole POSSE controversy is a contrived plot created by an unnamed source to make the RCSC look bad. I always enjoy a good conspiracy theory so i encouraged him to man-up, share his speculation in a well written, well documented expose. It would be powerful and compelling journalism to unleash the beast and share with us all. Dare i say almost Woodward and Bernstein like?

To add to the drama and the excitement of his theory, an anonymous poster came on almost immediately after him and responded to Dave's allegations and the question, "am i wrong?" This gem supported his belief: "Nope. And there's even more under the gravy." Come on guys step up, gravy has little or no value without the mashed potato's. By the way, we allow anyone to post under anonymous if that is how they decide to role. Just saying.

Now that i have hooked you with the drama of a Geraldo Rivera safe cracking, let me share with you Dave's musing. Yup, i decided to use his first name so he in fact takes at least some ownership/credit of his personal attack against the 50 year old Sun City POSSE:
If what you say is true anon, where did this nothing burger surface from and by whom? What is the motivation behind this other than making the Board look bad and this close to an election. The final questions are who benefits and why? I have my suspicions but will without. I believe the future postings on this topic will reveal the true motivations.

Yowsa. Who could possibly be pulling the strings of the Sun City POSSE? Better yet and more on point, why would anyone want to waste their time trying to make the RCSC look bad? They certainly don't need any help from anyone doing that. Think not? Go back and watch the first meeting last September where the board raced off the stage after thee minutes and change rather than talk with the membership. Oh wait, you can't. It's been pulled.

Stay tuned as i will share with all of you his continued ramblings. I am truly looking forward to the big REVEAL.

  4. What is the difference between a CardMember and a Posse Member on RCSC Property?
Answer: One is wearing a Uniform.

All Posse members are RCSC Cardmembers. They are no different from any other member, except for the uniform.
So what's Bill Cooks rationale for contacting the Insurance Company? None that I can see.

The Posse is a Deterrent. They are not Law Enforcement or Hired Security.
The uniform is part of that deterrent when someone is considering a dastardly deed.
Every time a posse member sees something suspicious they will SAY SOMETHING, call 911. This is what the Sheriff said at that big meeting at Sundial. "SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING". Well the Posse will do that. They will not intervene or approach someone performing a criminal act. But they will SAY SOMETHING.

So what is Bill Cook's problem? Is it a lack of common sense? Is it incompetence? Is it inability to do his job?
    You decide! I already have.
