Not all progress is good, but most is. Where would we be without the Wright Brothers? The evolution of cars or train engines? Computers, telephones, etc. People are upset because it could affect SC directly. If this was happening in Sun City Huntly Illinois, would you be this upset? How many things have taken place right here within our surrounding walls that no one got to vote on? Just an opinion.

Not everyone is thinking about the quality of their life. I look at the greater good.

We pay next to nothing in taxes now. They could double and it wouldn't really affect many people here.
Building anything is always good. For us, for America. Awhile back Bill Maher had a video that mentioned we binge watch. China binge builds! China is our competitor in EVERYTHING!
Unemployment is 4% now. How many of the current jobs will be gone because of AI? The population will continue to go up. The US population has doubled since Sun City was started.
Supply chain will improve. That affects everyone.
We need more housing. Everywhere. That's hardly a secret.
I really don't care about the natural environment. No shortage of desert.
As for water it's time to move out the agriculture. Lots of vacant land where it rains! Grow more in the central US. They can ship it to us by RAIL!

Hey Jeb, long time no hear. Hope all is well, Let's be clear, the "greater good" is all bullshit these days. If that weren't the case, the BBB wouldn't have shoveled massive tax relief at those who already have it all. It's the new normal brother, celebrate it, the future is for those who take it; the new God is technology and AI will be the alter we all worship at.

As far as all building being good old and tired, is it? You mentioned China, which i find curious. Not to be political here, but for years we heard "global warming" was a Chinese hoax that was forcing us (the US) to waste/spend money needlessly on green energy. Okay; except if you follow China's evolution, they are in the top of world leaders in developing alternatives energy production. I mean literally at break neck speeds.

On the other hand, the USA (via the BBB) just destroyed the future of alternative energy production in this country. Our future is now tied to expanding subsidies on fossil fuel. Brilliant with last year's profits in 2024 in excess of 100 billion dollars; another badly needed assist for corporations eh? Nope, no interest in debating global warming, we'll all see how that plays out in the coming years. I'm not holding my breath on severe weather incidents dropping; how about you?

I'm not convinced the BSNF project is a done deal. We'll see. I suspect the push back will be substantial. It's interesting to note SCHOA has come out against it and most of us know Lisa Gray worked with Debbie Lesko...so we'll see how the mop flops when it's all said and done.

Don't be a stranger Jeb, missed you brother.

FYI, so if it’s not the same program, what is it?
Josie I receive those stations free on ROKU and even if they are time shifted, they tell what their view is on the issues no matter how ill informed or idiotic they are portrayed. These people are just MAGA bottom feeders trying to be relevant.

Time to turn to prime and see what the free baseball game is showing.

You're kidding right? We don't even manufacture much alternative energy in the U.S. China makes the solar panels and wind turbines! And the last administration wants to shut down our nuclear plants!
And that's why they're getting read to start-up three mile Island nuclear plant. Solar panels and wind turbines just don't generate enough power to support AI.

While China is the world's leading manufacturer of solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, and electric vehicles, among other clean energy technologies, China still relies heavily on coal, despite also being a major investor in renewable energy. While China has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, it's still the world's largest consumer of coal and is actively building new coal-fired power plants.

Here we are having a great discussion on the BSNF project and you want to get all political. We may just have to visit these topics in the non Sun City related section, love to share my thoughts, it appears as if we may differ on a few topics.

Let's stay on topic here and focus on whether the new potential BNSF rail hub is of value or isn't.

Here's a question that is related to comments above:
Does the greater good mean locally in the West Valley?
Does the greater good mean across the state of Arizona?
Does the greater good mean for the United States as a whole?
Or, is the greater good for the world overall?
Or better yet; is it just what is in my own personal best interest? Screw the greater good.

See how quickly this becomes convoluted; is our backyard more important than the state? The country? The world?

Looking forward to hearing your answers as it pertains to the BNSF rail hub.

Bill you started the ball rolling by referring to the BBB. Were we supposed to think you were referring to the Better Business Bureau?

Your comments re the BBB have no place in this thread yet you put it out there and then blame others when they respond. Two sets of rules?

Mostly for the US but good for AZ. West Valley, East Valley, or New Mexico wouldn't matter to me. As long as it gets built. It needs to be near a population center that already has some of the infrastructure needed. The employees need a place to live, shop, and for their children to go to school so it can't be 50 miles from nowhere.

I'm probably closer to the tracks than anyone here so it sure isn't in my best interest.

What was a good and insightful conversation is done now because people had to bring politics into play. I thought political discussion was done since the Purely Politics thread was shut down, but Dave has to bring up Debbie Lesko and call news people MAGA bottom feeders trying to be relevant. Bill had to insert his version of the BBB. Carole where are you now?

Thanks for your response old and tired. It's a fascinating question isn't it? I've long believed in "the greater good," but once something is in your own back yard, opinions/ideologies often change.

As a point of interest, i mentioned no political parties, as i was more focused on the changes made in the BBB regarding the impact environmentally because of the heavy focus back on fossil fuels, as opposed to green energy. A good share of this BSNF dispute is regarding what happens on a local level regarding quality of life, traffic/related congestion, green house gas emissions, noise and safety.

None of these should be a political dispute or debate, but rather a moral one; one would hope as a country our goals should be more about the safety and security of the citizens rather than corporate profits. That said, the 3 billion dollar investment looks appealing, but until we know at what cost, it's still an open question with a hundred answers needed.

Another point of interest. We all know your political affiliation, and even tho you mentioned no party it's just insulting to think we are too stupid to understand what you are talking about.

he BBB) just destroyed the future of alternative energy production in this country

If that weren't the case, the BBB wouldn't have shoveled massive tax relief at those who already have it all

Not all agree with you and there was absolutely no benefit of bringing this into the conversation. We all know there are two sets of rules here.

If your comments were not meant to be political why say the above? Obviously you knew they should not be on this thread.

    Josie,
You looking for me? Why? This thread has gotten so convoluted from its inception, I can’t even begin to follow which direction it’s headed to now.
It’s just a crying shame that having a meaningful conversation leads to political discourse. There are so many ways to engage in the discussion and not bring politics into the mix, but alas, here it is again. And then I wonder why so many people have abandoned TOSC as a way to engage in community discussions.
Talk of Sun City could and should be a unifying force for the community, a way to share ideas and have people engage with each other. Yes, have disagreements and differing views about everything and anything, but can we have these conversations without getting into a political battle?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, insights and perspectives but can the political discourse please be curtailed? There is more than enough to talk about on this subject for now and the future of our community. Thank you.

I did NOT bring up anything political, however I did point out Bill and Dave did. Once again you blame me for what others say. If you have an issue with the turn of the conversation go to the two sources, not me. Maybe reread the threads to see where they went so off track.

No idea what you are talking about Josie, my remarks have all been directed towards the BNSF rail hub. While you may not like or even understand the environmental aspect of the argument, it cannot be denied or pretend it doesn't exist. I factored it into the discourse and attacked no one other than to mention the BBB (certainly not the better business bureau) may/will have as this discussion unfolds.

Even my remarks regarding the billionaires getting massive/huge tax relief along with the oil and gas industry benefiting bigly as well was on point. If you think not Berkshire Hathaway/Warren Buffet owns the controlling stock in BSNF. No personal attacks, just the reality of where we are as a country with this discussion centering on what happens in Wittman and our senior communities abutting it.

Hope that clears up any of your concerns regarding my comments.

    Josie,
No blame was placed, merely asking a question. The context of the post was about the direction it had taken. You called me out by name, I responded with general sentiment about what was posted. There was no malice in what I posted, just an observation about the context of the conversation. It was my own personal opinion.

I asked where you were because it seems you are right there when I do something against whatever rules there are here, yet crickets when Bill and Dave do the same. Check the Mt. View post. Bill turned that into a thread about the Villages. Why, I don't know. What I do know is had it been me I would have been called out for hijacking or off topic.
