Sorry Dave but that is not the case. When someone stalks someone else online it is IMHO walking in thin ice. The same is true when a person who never went to law school provides legal advice. I hope you can see the difference.

Always a fascinating time of year in Arizona. As i look at the weather forecast and see 100 degree days looming, one can almost hear the car doors slamming as trunks and mini vans are piled high with stuff of those escaping the coming heat wave. That phenomena is not new and very early on in Sun City formative years, seasonal residents always made up an large portion of our population.

I suspect the coming years will reduce those numbers of wanderers, at least those owning multiple homes. The cost of home ownership is perhaps higher now than at any point in our history. Taxes, utilities, property insurance when added to the higher prices commanded for buying a home in Sun City makes owning two or three properties more difficult. And, those high values, makes selling a home they bought coming out of the housing crunch in 2009/2010 even more attractive. And don't even get me started on Canadian's selling their homes and cashing in on the exchange rate advantage.

Nope, not wandering from the topic at hand, just setting up the realities of the coming summer months. This thread is about keeping the momentum going and frankly once the RCSC shuts down meetings during the summer, the task of maintaining momentum is even more daunting. I will say this in defense of the now departed GM, last summer might have been the best summer we have seen in a long time for events for those of us who stay year round.

It's been a long standing lament, snow birds (i much prefer winter visitors), have always enjoyed more activities. Some truth to that, as our summer weather isn't always conducive to doing stuff in the great outdoors. Perhaps we should argue for the community to be domed and kept at a beautifully climate controlled 78 degrees?

Silliness, obviously, and why i cringe whenever we start hearing demands for indoor (what-ever, you fill in the blanks). The costs for everyone's favorite activity to be awarded air conditioned spaces is an expensive proposition. In the end, as a 20 year lawn bowler who goes to the green almost daily, yes even during the summer, can i please have an indoor air conditioned venue? No, hell no.

Back to the point; i would argue the Mountain View triArc pursuit of a suitable plan is exactly what we need. We know in 2023, both the SAC and the Budget and Finance committees met all summer long and in my opinion, it was glorious. We proved unequivocally, we could still function during the 110 degree blistering heat and actually get stuff done in spite of frying our brains.

Beyond that, we need to crank up the board to generate some enthusiasm for "member engagement." There's still several more months of meetings before the break and hopefully they will take advantage of members being interested, even though attendance will drop off.

    We'll see eh?

Bill's post reminds me of the importance of careful planning for RCSC's capital investment. This is the primary reason I am such an adamant advocate for hiring an expert to create a comprehensive plan for RCSC facilities and activities. When I was on the Board, I could see that planning was sorely lacking and RCSC would spend a million just to placate one group or another without any consideration of how all of the facilities are underutilized. If we keep adding expensive to maintain buildings, we will end up with much higher costs and assessments.

One thought I have is for RCSC to develop an online idea bank so that the creative non-committee members among us can exchange ideas in a place for all to see. My brain is bursting at the seams to make deposits in that bank. Wouldn't that be useful information for a master planner to evaluate?

Another idea is to have periodic member satisfaction surveys so that we have some level of accountability in our governance process.

I am one person and I know there are many that would like to contribute if the Board would sincerely ask...

I have not stalked anybody, yes Josie has Sgt. Schultz but that seems to be a paper mouse.
In relation to you, I have not stalked you, I have responded to your posts. When you talked about your lawsuit I was drawing on my experience believing you would appreciate it as I believed your litigation experience was, shall we say a little thin. You blew me off rather than maybe sit down for a chat to see what I had to say and why. I know we have had our disagreements over the years and I can accept that as we come from, in the language of my generation, different tribes and experience.

As for legal advice, if a person receives a denial of benefits from an administrative agency and I advise them that they can appeal the decision, am I giving legal advice? If I further say that they can be represented in the appeal, they can have discovery and what that means, am I giving legal advice or just advising them of their rights? Am I on thin ice as you say?

If RCSC is served with a class action suit, I read the compliant, note a ton of defects that should sink the action should I say something or in meeting with the attorneys remain silent. By remaining silent the rec centers and the D&O insurer fork out over $300k in legal fees and costs over three years but win the action or do I advise the attorneys of my work experience in this area and my thoughts on proceeding, which they ignore still costing three centers and insurer $300k over three years. Was I giving legal advice or just talking about what I saw and experienced over three years in a particular area of the law?

Have a positive day John and look forward to talking to you sometime.
