We are getting WAY off topic. This topic if I am correct is about Board Candidates. Anything else is pure BS. Start a new thread. This thread is NOT about Covid tests. Start a new thread.
It's no wonder no one wants to post here as they never really know the content of the thread TOPIC. Irt starts out talking about the topic and quickly morphs into whatever anyone wants to talk about. How can anyone seriously follow a thread if it meanders all over the place.
I probably shouldn't go there but I just have to get this out there.... is it just me or was there a bunch of innuendo in this closing speech last night? "Once again, I’d like to thank you all for your participation. Should I be elected to serve on the BOD, I want to assure you that I would work diligently to do things in the best interest of the people of Sun City and this great community. You all know me….accomplishments …..Who’s Who’s blah, blah, blah What I feel is important is what I am and have been doing NOW and that is a well-established track record of helping the people of Sun City, not just talking about HOW I would if I got elected. I am actually running for the Board now because I believe in the truth. You may not always like what I have to say but I will tell you the truth. Some of you may call it that transparency, I just call it plain honesty. I believe in pulling the covers back and looking at the actual wound not just someone else’s interpretation of it. It also saddens me when someone hides behind the cloak of confidentiality only to use it to speak their own untruths. I used to see this in medicine. A physician performed a procedure incorrectly then told the patient they found more damage than they anticipated. What was also used by the practitioner was the Sympathy Factor. The individual that did the wrong would have people surrounding the situation feeling sorry for them. I recently saw this again when someone couldn’t or wouldn’t live with the consequences of the situation so they simply covered up with untruths. It’s time to pull back the covers and evaluate the truth." Comments?
And I guess I'll stick my neck out here, too: Kudos to the Election Committee of RCSC for their successful Candidate Forums held this past Monday and Wednesday. While attendance could have been much better, the member-driven questions were excellent. Notice I said member-driven. I must confess that I found the question asked by a sitting Board member offensive as it appeared to be focused on only one of the six candidates on the stage and the fact that his background did not show any involvement in Sun City. After checking the bylaws, I discovered that being involved in Sun City is not one of the requirements necessary to be a candidate for the Board. They are 1. Must be at least fifty-five (55) years of age; 2. Must be Member in good standing; 3. Must not reside with or be related by marriage or birth to any other Board of Director, Board candidate, or Senior Management; 4. Must reside in Sun City, Arizona and be available at least ten (10) months of the year; 5. Must meet the requirement to hold an Arizona liquor license; 6. Must be eligible and available to serve a three (3) year term; and 7. Must attend Board Candidate Orientation(s). Asking this question just wasted the time that we, the members, had in which to ask our questions because Mr. Hofer had to reword the question to be able to ask all 6 candidates, and in doing so, each candidate took two minutes to state what their involvement was in Sun City which we already had access to. In future Candidate Forums, I think questions should not be coming from sitting Directors of the Board. It seems to me that they could easily ask their questions when they see the candidates in the offices or before or after Board meetings. This is my opinion.
Back to board candidates. I have 2 good candidates I will vote for. as for others - I will have to review the video a couple of times to even consider voting for anyone other than the 2 I have elected to vote for. A question for those in the know - Stella used the EPCOR baloney to suggest there was a quorum there. I may be wrong (and I usually am) there was no Board meeting or Member meeting regarding the EPCOR crap? There were a lot of people in attendance at the 2 Epcor sessions (I think there were 2). Maybe they added up to 1250, but they were there to protect their pocketbook. I don't remember any quorum of members at those Epcor sessions. As for the Grand property, I don't ever remember being asked if we should buy that property (and then tear it down and start over) but again I am probably wrong.
She was pathetic several times last night…her closing was indeed transparent…true colors shining through. Desperate??!!
Well, I'm still a little pissed about purchasing that Grand Avenue property. I'm not saying that the Vintage Car Club didn't need a better space, but what I'm getting to is this; it's not like the population of Sun City is continually growing that we need to to keep on adding Recreation Centers! I think 7 is/was plenty. Second, why didn't they purchase that property under the Sun City Property Holdings Corporation? They bought the property for $750,000 and I'm told they were shortly thereafter offered over 1.1 million dollars, but because it was purchased by the RCSC a Membership meeting would be required for the approval to sell it...(at a very nice profit I might add!) If it was purchased under the Property Holdings Corporation it could have been resold outright, but of course, this is just another board monument to themselves! Next, I'll make no bones about it, I'm voting for Karen, John and Frank and let the chips fall where they may for the fourth position. I know many don't like Frank but perhaps he's exactly what we need, somebody who's not been wrapped-up in the RCSC policies and BS politics that's been going on for years. A fresh set of eyes and ideas from a somewhat outsider. Most other candidates are simply preaching to the choir and telling us what they think we want to hear. I want somebody to shake-up the system...and hopefully won't get kicked-off the board for their new ideas! to be continued...
Frank has my support as well. He isn’t beholding to ANY board member. Intimidates them with his high level of experience. He’ll just be one vote, what are they afraid of?? How can we not take advantage of his commitment to serve our community for a three year term? He won’t necessarily “ go along to get along” unless it’s the right thing for the community! AND it appears he and Karen have a good relationship at this early stage, a big plus!!!
You are not wrong in either case SCR. The EPCOR meeting was a whole different beast with the owners living here facing massive increases due to the water consolidation crap. I found the commentary regarding why 3500 now reduced to 1250 saved the community. That too was a steaming pile of crap. The real question, should have been; "do you really find it acceptable to not have a membership meeting since Sept of 2009. If not, what are you prepared to do as a board member be willing to do to insure we have one?" The other issue SCR, the purchase of the Grand Ave property is more interesting, FYI alluded to it above. They bought the property for 750K, no need to ask the membership. The bigger issue would have been if they had turned around and sold it, that would have needed membership approval. Unless as FYI said they had purchased it under the Sun City Property Holding Corp. Have they ever done anything with that fiasco? Finally, to eyeswideopen's point, the attacks by the threesome against Karen were tiring and beneath all of them. At least Kat backed off last night from the opening salvo they levied against her as well. Until you've walked a mile in someone's shoes, stay focused on what you are going to do. It's a far more attractive approach than cheap shots to show the existing board you want to be one of them.
Well, if the purchase price was 750 thou, did that include closing costs and attorney fees? If not, wasn't voter approval needed?
I too did not appreciate the question from the sitting board member. There was no reason at all to address only one candidate when that was clearly not in the rules of these two forums. I totally agree ODAAT! Also related to this particular issue, I am very disappointed that this particular candidate could not find one way to become involved in Sun City in over 10+ years. Heck, join a club in the last couple of months - show you are 'one of us'.
I like Kat and her push to catch up with technology. Just can’t accept her obvious alliance with Stella & Allan. They sat together at board meetings. Their answers to several Forum questions were very similar as if discussed in campaign meetings “working together.” What really sent the red flag up is how often both Stella and Kat said and wrote, “ I LOVE SUN CITY.” We suspected TOSC was being read, by all the candidates yep it was! I think Kat, if elected, will be an automatic member of the old guard. Ha, Stella really does not like being called a retread! Karen, John and Frank for me. Still pondering a fourth.
Looks like everyone is 'fessing up. If I haven't said so before, Karen, John, and Frank for sure. Love that John is so openly out there for the members. Mentions "us" a lot! I was concerned about Frank because he is so overly qualified in a manner of speaking. But, I am pretty sure that Karen has a good rapport with him and he knows the in's and out's of grants, etc. Maybe he can find us some extra money somewhere! Kat's opening comment last night was very strong; I wanted to go and listen to it again but it was cut out of the stream. I know there is a previous board member who really likes her, but like Eyesopen, her alliances worry me. So I'm still pondering my fourth.
Hey, BP, FYI and SCR - start a thread for the Grand property, would you. Had no idea that they could have sold it for a profit! And I'd love to know what % of the members use it. Could have put that money into building a theatre off property somewhere.
Kat never impressed me the last three times she ran for a directors seat. She talks a good game about Technology, but offers no rebuttal to the GM and IT that it would be cost prohibitive to store ALL videos and RCSC documents digitally. My rebuttal to that is that you can get 1 TB (Terabyte) SSD for about 85.00/ 1 TB will hold tons of videos. A typical Board Meeting will be about 1.2KB of data. Digitizing documents would consume even less than that. I don't know about her alliances, but I probably will not vote for her. For me it is the lesser of two evils. Frank or Kat. The revelations here should be an eye opener for all current board candidates. Just my opinions here.
Blohofs has a clone: Stela Vanhof Loud mouth runs around Sun City rec centers and wants a red carpet when she shows up. Retread of retreads.
Alan is on my short list. My biggest concern with Alan is that he is a golfer. Will he recuse himself on any vote regarding golf (Bylaws or Articles of Incorporation, or golf fees)?
Karen, John, and Frank for me as well. Thinking about a fourth, not sure yet. Perhaps just going with 3 is best for the math side of things if I don't decide on a solid fourth. 'Conflict of interest' really requires a stronger definition and parameters moving forward. I would hope all directors can be involved in RCSC clubs going forward. It is in members' best interest to have directors involved and participating with those of us who don't hold a director spot. I am unsure how having opinions and advocating for ideas, projects, and policies is a problem if we have the data in place and member's best interest in mind. "It is the mission of RCSC to provide for all Sun City residents (should they choose to participate) the broadest range of recreational and social facilities possible to enhance their active lifestyle and well-being."
Blohof spoon fed Stella with piping hot shit with the million dollar question and she didn't have a clue. Alan is a golf hack which we have had too many of
