Another issue I’ve seen lately is that a lot of time is wasted waiting o people to get to the podium to ask their question. they should be queued up before opening the mic.
Everything that Hoffer explained in the first 3 or more minutes should have been explained in the orientation.
If I remember correctly, every candidate supported subsidizing golf. I may be wrong - I will have to review the video when it is posted. in any case, it would appear that Amy docs people have stating that golf should be self sustaining have become mute.
I attended. I have a definite NO VOTE on the retread. Most probable NO VOTE on the candidate that didn't show up to participate (hope it's not due to health). Is this a correct statement: "we need for 4 of the candidates to receive at least 100 votes each, otherwise the BOD can "hand pick" who to put in those chairs"? Please advise.
Poison _Ivy: "we need for 4 of the candidates to receive at least 100 votes each, otherwise the BOD can "hand pick" who to put in those chairs" CORRECT! ARTICLE V – BOARD OF DIRECTORS SECTION 4: LENGTH OF TERMS AND VACANCIES The term of office for an elected Board of Director shall be three (3) years. At the annual election, three (3) Board of Directors shall be elected for three (3) year terms. One, two or three-year elected terms enter into the six (6) year limit set forth in the Articles. In the event more than three (3) vacancies exist as of the deadline for turning in the petitions, those vacancies shall also be filled at the annual election as follows: A candidate receiving less than one hundred (100) votes shall not be eligible to fill any vacancies. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes, after the three (3) three-year terms are filled, shall fill the next longest vacant term. https://suncityaz.org/corporate-bylaws/ If only three candidates receive the required 100 votes, or more, winning a Director position, THEN the existing board will HAND PICK someone to fill the vacancy. Important to make sure FOUR candidates receive, at minimum, 100 votes!!
I went with a totally open mind and took copious notes. I know, silly. It's how i think. I was troubled by one of the candidates i truly like who thought golf was just another amenity, like all the others. Dude, it's not. Hopefully before the Weds session someone will clue him in. It was a amazing to listen to the waffling when someone asked via the live feed if golf should be self-sustaining. I know, don't piss the golfers off; no matter what. Here's the ugly reality; as i said in another thread, unless and until we know how much golf has been subsidized over the years, how do you even answer that question? I know damn well board members can't tell us, they have no freaking clue. They could and they should but the exiting gm has underplayed expenditures since the very beginning of her tenure. Hell, if she believed golf had no obligation to be self-sustaining why should she give a flying flock how much she dumped down the rat hole? Let me be even more blunt: If what we have lost in revenue or spent through yearly capital improvements (not PIF) is 15 or 20 million dollars, that's the cost of building a free-standing theater, that's the cost of buying the Lakes Club and converting the theater that was there. That's money that could have been used for technology or life long learning classes that other age restricted communities blow us away on. Over all i thought the performance by the candidates yesterday was solid. That said, saying the right thing is seldom the same as doing the right thing. I've watched or attended these from the time i came here and what people say almost always is lost as the enter the board room and become mesmerized by the need to go along to get along. Every know and then some one comes along who refuses and as we saw the past two years, they were just kicked to the curb.
There are several comments to make after the first Candidate Forum. If masks are required, that means they are to be worn during the Forum and not just donned so they can get in the door. If people take them off during the program, they should be asked to wear the mask properly or leave. They could watch from home if they don't care about protecting others in the room or are unable to wear a mask due to health reasons. Hopefully the initial question to all candidates by the Host will be eliminated and also the lightning round. Both of those eat up time that can best be used by questions from the floor or YouTube. With so many candidates it's good to have the 2 minute time limit. Sitting in those uncomfortable chairs for 2 hours is just about the maximum. Lastly, please be courteous to those around you. Keep your conversations until the program is over or leave and have your discussions outside of the auditorium. It's very distracting to hear constant remarks while there is someone speaking. I thank the Election Committee for all their efforts in bringing us such a wide range of candidates this year!
Just came up with a good solution to those that don't feel they should mask up when required at the Candidate Forums, Board Meetings, or any other RCSC indoor function that has announced that masks are mandatory. Why not set aside a room to remotely have a live feed of the function or meeting? They can breathe as heavily as they want and not violate everyone's personal space. They do this at some churches where little kids might disturb the service and the parents can still follow.
Or better yet we could just have people self-identify and we could issue maga badges where those folks with them would sit on one side of the room and those without on the other. Then we could quickly build a giant, beautiful wall separating the two and life would be good again. Sorry, my bad. Just need a quick chuckle at a time when there is little to laugh about.
Better yet, people could self identify as transvaccinated! Those are people who didn't want to get vaccinated but identify as a person who was.
On a somewhat related note, I just went to the library (99 & Bell) and got a free covid self-check kit. I suspect that what I have is just a cold, but have not had the nerve to try the thing yet.
No walk ins. You just find the marked parking spot, last isle to the north, second space from the library, call the number on the sign at the parking space, they ask for your zip code (85351) and then bring it out to the car. My test was negative, I plan on keeping it that way.
Good job Carp by explaining how to get one and glad you are well. Do you know what brand they are? Thank you so much and again I hope you get better soon. The air is so full of stuff this time of year and allergies are driving our animals and ourselves crazy. We need a good slow rain to clean things up. Masks really help filter out some of the pollen in the air
Never mind. The link from the email blast said streaming was offline. Did a search for “RCSC candidate forum Nov 3” and found the good one that is missing the first cou-or of minutes.

The library test is "BinaxNOW Self Test", and yes, if covid were not around I would not be concerned about my allergies/cold, but covid has upped the ante. I have a book published about a US Navy base in WW One Canada were my grandfather was the doctor durung that flu epidemic. He ends up getting it, but survives.
