The word "huh" followed by question mark indicates I am confused.
So even tho the Lapidary Club welcomed you, it wasn't enough - you needed to be shown around and asked about learning in order to give up the rocks. Now I understand.
I hear the housing market is healthy - I wish you the best of luck.
I never said nor implied you could not express your opinion here - I do not live in a Banana Republic, nor do I shop in one. But here again is my confusion: what does anything you are saying have to do with Board and Committee Exclusions for snowbirds?

Some mysteries are best left unanswered jeb.

I have been following the thread. And now you made me go back and read Earl's comments. Both of them. Multiple times. He doesn't mention clubs. Doesn't use the word. You brought it up even tho it has nothing to do with his OP.

HH - I've lived here for 3 years; still work full time; am member of a card club at which I volunteer to welcome and teach new members house rules; am member of Softball Club and always make special effort to say a few extra words (and pats on back) to new members (just as was done to me when I was new); and am member of a Committee. What's your contribution (today - now) to the problems you brought up?

    and crickets to my post...

To my friends out there: I know, I know "Don't feed the trolls" just like they tell you to "Don't feed the animals" at the zoo. But seriously guys, sometimes you just gotta throw a handful of fruit into the monkey pit and watch them go at it - screaming incoherently, jumping around, throwing banana peels and feces at each other. It's just really funny.
Anyway, I'm done here. Peace out.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Happy Hippie, Sympathies for the loss of your family members. I lost my mom, mother-in-law, father and husband all in five years. Other than my mother-in-law, I was the sole caretaker of the rest. Oh, and I was working full time. It was hard but I was able to get through it to enjoy the rest of my remaining years. I wish you the same because I am now living my best life. It took some time and professional help to deal with my depressed feelings and anxiety of what the future held. To me, you sound bitter and resentful so I suggest you seek help with professionals, a group organization specific to your problems, or your minister. You should be able to state your opinions without swearing or calling other posters names.

BTW I have become acquainted with Bill, Jeb and several others on this site and have found them to be reasonable, honest, and forthright.

Points well made Jeb, as the original point of this post was the suggestion non-full time residents could/would enhance the pool of candidates running for open board positions? Anyone paying attention is aware of the scramble to get members to step up and run. Back in the day, there were 40,000 plus RCSC members, now we are hoovering around 32,000. To be clear, not all of those 40,000 were year-round, but certainly with less total members the pool shrinks. I've long argued we should know how many privilege card holders there are. It's a bit of a challenge because the RCSC collects the lot assessment from every home owner, but so many folks own multiple homes (as rentals), the numbers get skewered.

We have a valuable resource that too often we don't pay enough attention to, what do other age restricted communities do around us?

The danger in not having a residency requirement for board members is that we could end up with non-resident investor(s) on the board attending meetings by zoom.

Mirror this, operative requirement bolded. Nonresident investor concern eliminated!

SCW: “Any resident Owner Member in good standing who is available on a year-round basis for participation in the Association’s business affairs, may become a candidate for election to the Governing Board.”

I think our board and committee members should be a representation of our community.

If “part-timers” are willing to participate, in real time, however that is achieved, let them become candidates or committee members.

The membership decides who they want as directors when they vote.

    Committees choose their members.

We can and should be resident inclusive.
