A tougher (opinion) piece of Sun City sculpture

Do you know where this piece of Sun City is located? Hint, it is pretty much downtown Sun City.

 

Okay, in the kiss-and- tell spirit, this work is located at Boswell Hospital, at the Thunderbird entrance. While photographing it I was told that I could not do so by security. By then I already had these shots in the bag.

 

That's a cool one. I'm definitely going to sneak a photo of it. Rather paranoid to not allow a photo of a sculpture, IMHO. It's not patient information.

 

Well the secret is too look around and make sure there is no security person on hand. If need be, starting small fire in the back somewhere should take care of that. Happy shooting.

 

Hmmm.....looks like a photog trip is now in my near future around T-Bird and 103rd !.....lol.
Geeze....Who would have ever thought a unsanctioned photo would be a security breach and catastrophic to our national security !!!!

 

I think that the issue here is about the confidentiality of people, especially patients in and around the hospital. Something that I can understand. So besides being alert to where the security folks are be particularly sensitive of the general public, who might not want their pictures to end up here. Oh yes, welcome to the discussion.

 

Yes I’m sure that’s they’re thinking, but its still overkill. I work in one of the most high profile hospitals in the country...the one known for and heard about on the news with its famous patients. We are very, very strict about protection of patients privacy. Layers of privacy. It has a donated art collection to rival many museums. No you can’t take photos of those because they are inside the hospital.

The place also has several outside sculptures by well known artists. Lots of security everywhere on campus. But you can take photos of the sculptures outside. No problem. I can’t see how photos of outside sculptures can interfer with confidentiality. If someone wants a photo of a patient they can legally stand outside the entrance on the closest public sidewalk and take photos of anyone around the hospital.

Of course if you use a phone and you’re quick, taking pictures most anywhere is easy because everyone has their phones out all the time. But then, it’s a phone photo and often not as good.

 

I don't use a phone (barely even as a phone) and I have been told I'm quick on occasion.

 

Nice to know someone else has a cell phone and never uses it. My family says it is important to have one in case of an emergency.
In 5 years, I have not needed it. A waste of money as far as I am concerned. People all around me would have a phone. Stillll. I have one.

 

Perhaps we need to have one of those opinion threads here about cell phone. Something like, do you use yours more than twice a day, or do you serf the internet on your phone, something like that. Perhaps we need to create a Sun City Club for folks who don't use them. We would NOT need to start off the meetings with "Please turn off your cell phones," for one thing. Who knows what else we would discover that we have in common.

 

Hmmm....My Android has been laying on the kitchen table for at least 3 weeks untouched. I use Google Voice through my computer , and only check a couple times a day and see who has called. I can forward it to any number , but find it easier to just let it sit on the computer for ME to check in !
That way my REAL number is never given out , and I control everything incoming , recorded , messages , outgoing , and custom tailored voice mails for specific callers. Someone that isn't welcome calling or is soliciting , gets immediately blocked at will.
It really irritates a couple friends that seem to think I have nothing better to do than have an actual phone at my finger tips and answer at their beckon call.....lol.
I try and explain to them that "I" control my phone....not the other way around where my phone controls "ME".
Be sure to include in the "poll"....."people who just don't care about Cell phones".....lol.
Also...... sign me up in the new Club !

 

Getting to be an official Sun City RCSC with the proper stamp-of-approval so that we can be card carrying party members involves a fair amount of paperwork (having done it once), but there is nothing stopping us from naming the club "The Semi-Official Sun City Luddite Society." By going with "luddite" we can work in a few things besides cell phones and thus double our base of appeal from 3 to 6 (carpmath).

 

Use it twice a day? I use it twice an hour. Check: weather, the date, maps, security cams in SC property and my dogs when I'm at work, listen to podcasts when driving, music, check solar production on SC roof, use car back-up camera and engine health app, check in airline when flying, play scrabble, tune guitar and uke, take reference photos, control my best camera when needed, email & social media & test messages daily+, calculator, order an uber, scan a document, flashlight. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. I rarely bank, order items, write or read on the phone...usually use my desktop or tablet for those. A full computer in my hand...you bet your sweet bippy I'm using it. Count me out of the luddite club. I'm full-on geek.

FYI, I do not look at my phone while crossing streets or walking my dog.

 

Geeks need not apply. But I am interested in the uke and guitar thing. You no doubt know about the famed Sun City Ukelele Club - folks who actually went through all the paperwork to form an official club, but also if you want to sing & play guitar in a more freelance situation I know just the bunch you belong with. No, not the SC Guitar Club.

 

I’ve mostly abandoned the guitar now in favor of the uke. But I will be looking for some people to play with, other than a large group. Not saying I won’t give the Uke Club a try, but if you have an inside into something else I might be interested. I’m more into fingerstyle than strumming and singing though. I do sing but I’m a bit particular about the type of songs. Uke can easily sound hokey, if you know what I mean. Do you play?

 

The Semi-Official Sun City Luddite Society.....lol........Could this possibly include resistance to Photo Radar , On-Star , Pakistan call centers , and GPS navigation systems in general ? And last but not least...Computerized Election Voter Machines ?

Though when you get to be as ancient as me that becomes "percussionist." SO I don't know what qualifies as "particular about the type of songs" , but I have three Ukelele Ike CDs and two Tiny Tim ones in my collection so I can appreciate a good uke tune. I play in a duo with my brother unimaginatively called Me & My Brother and we are often up for jam sessions. And when you are ready for the BIG TIME we have a regular brewery gig in the Big City that we could work you into for a tune or two. Or more, depending.

 

Yes, all these things could be written into our charter. Though you'd think that folks who really understand technology would be totally opposed to at least Computerized Election Voter Machines for some pretty obvious reasons.

To hear me tell it "My" is a guitar player (and singer) but in his version "Me" is the guitar player.
In Mom's version it was "My Brother & I."
At our most ambitious we have a list of 500 songs. The heart of it is 60s stuff but we go back to the 20s & 30s & 40s & 50s and up into the 70s and even 80s.. We had a 90 year old fan who would come with her kids every week to hear us and we'd plan on having one more for her every week. We never could get "Elmer's Song" partly because My usually played a guitar using DADGAD tuning, which make the odd chords of the Tin Pan Alley songs difficult or impossible. What do you like to play?
