I say this a lot: Sun City is a sum total of its parts. There are so many aspects to the community that it should be and is appealing to people on multiple levels. Basically it isn't one thing that gets ones juices flowing but literally dozens. And when you multiply that by the 40,000 residents you quickly come to understand why Sun City has not only survived for 50 plus years but flourished. I know i'm a bit odd, but my attraction to the community was a touch different. I loved the fact we were self-governed and self-sufficient. We relied on ourselves and the fact this wasn't a community ruled by politicians and the idiot politics that permeate our society today. If we want to make a difference in Sun City all we have to do is stick our arm in the air and say yes i'll get involved. How cool is that? I mean really, if we see the fabric of the community unravel a bit we can help stitch it back up. If we see an organization slide off course we can help right it. If we find a club where we want to try and make some improvements or changes we can join and work to that effort. Where else in this world is life, and the problems we face, that easy to fix? No wonder people live longer in Sun City eh?
The "bang for the buck" you get here is hard to beat. We have far more recreational options in Sun City than in any other 55+ development in AZ. The cost of the homes makes it attractive for the people who like remodel projects and we were among those people. We like the low taxes, the low HOA fees and could not see spending almost $300 a month for a golf course and very little else in one development. We appreciate the retro 60's look and how clean the neighborhoods are. You do not see trash piling up at the pools like we see at our rental home in north Peoria. We do take care of our community and our house is certainly in order. Be nice if Washington could run as well. I finally have neighbors who care enough to check on me when I am out of sight for too long. Most of the neighbors we had in our previous development could not be bothered even to wave at us. What a nice change and I do love living here...
Can't wait to hear more here (not in Sun City yet) I personally like the weather, the clubs offered and the reasonable cost of living. Golfing and the people are what make a community which obviously Sun City has!!
