Really doesn’t matter what the committee is up to, all of the work and efforts are almost always undone by the board members anyway. IMHO

    I pretty much agree.
Does anyone remember a committee recommendation to the board that was accepted and acted upon?

The majority of motions presented by directors, based on recommendations of a committee they chair, are approved every board meeting.

The committees would be responsible for ensuring the approved requested action is implemented.

    SCR,
I believe the key is the committee spends a lot of time making recommendations, anticipating the board will hear the recommendations in its original form and intent. The directors then add , edit, amend or delete vital information and content then present it to the board, who may further undo the original intent. This is the primary reason committee members don’t stay, they don’t feel their input is valued.

SCR, yes, the renewal of the property and casualty insurance with related coverages for the 2025-2026 policy year. The renewal was recommended by the Insurance committee after review of the insurance climate, coverages and loss runs. These were formulated into recommended coverages and accompanying premiums. Hop this answers your question.

I think the committee structure works in theory, but all boards, including this one, have found they can manipulate committees to their liking or ignore their recommendations without consequence. That has been my observation. That was not my practice and so the mission, vision and values statement and the open books practice came to be. It also got me kicked off the SAC committee.
IMHO those that run for the Board have "hidden agendas" or "strong beliefs" that they know their ideas are superior to any other idea. They seek confirmation from the tribe(s) that elected them, and they generally get it. Members simply fail to show up and engage in debate for whatever reason. IMHO this is the reasoning behind FYI's tagline - You get the government you deserve. Members have two choices: stay and enjoy the benefit of a high quantity of low-quality facilities that are lightly used for a bargain price or move. While some might argue there is a third choice; get involved and make a difference, I suspect most are smart enough to realize that they won't make a difference if they get involved so why waste the time.
So, what is the long-range planning committee up to? The cynical answer is Don't know, don't care because whatever they recommend will be ignored by this board. Heck, it appears members of LRP don't even know what the amended PIF forecast is because the Board didn't bother to tell them.
IMHO in order for members to really matter in the governance of RCSC, the board must be accountable to the membership in the bylaws. Just one man's opinion.
