Very rare SC model...

It's been a touch slow here since all of the excitement of TOSC community members buying homes, or at least making offers on them. So to jump start the site again (though guest visitor numbers have been quite good), i thought i'd do a quick post on one of the most rare models of homes in Sun City (a realtor told me there were only 70 something of them built).

The year release was 1972, and the H78 series was launched with what appears to be 4 model names attached to them. They were the: 78A Heritage; 78C Starlighter; 78D Biscayne and the 78F Touraine.

The Starlighter is the one that is most prominent, perhaps because of the flatroof. The series had 2 bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a "powder room," an Arizona room and a formal dining room. It was 2479 square feet, one of the largest models built in Sun City.

It's got quite a unique flair to the home. Here is the front elevation of the Starlighter and the floor plan from the 1972 sales brochure (click on the pic to enlarge):

The Starlighter sold for $55,590 in 1972, making it the most expensive model to date in Sun City. Perhaps that's why there are so few of them around. When they do come on the market, they sell quickly.

I considered one of those, mostly for the atrium, they are cool looking but I though a bit big for me. There is one around the corner from my house.

Can't say for sure C, but the one across the lake (that you posted a picture of) may be that model as well. I have friends the Starlighter this model on the other side of the lake. There may be a half dozen of them around your lake and Viewpoint. For people back then buying a lake lot, buying a more expensive home wasn't unusual.

You're right, it is large and there's always the question of how to lay it out given the straight-line layout of the floor plan.
