I went to my 2nd board meeting tonight. *I want to attend one of the member exchange meetings.* I'm not sure what my expectations are concerning the meetings, so far I guess I find them lacking. *I'm not sure.
That was a typical board meeting. Member exchange are not much different, maybe a few more people will take the podium. Unless something controversial is going on like raising the PIF not that many people attend.
It's always interesting to see and here new comers talk about our governance in Sun City. Clearly it is wholly different from where ever we came from. I likened it to knowing how electricity works in one magazine i wrote years back; it's akin to knowing you flip the switch and it comes on. Attending a board meeting often leaves one asking; where's the beef? Sun City runs almost in spite of itself. On it's face is an innocuous effort without lots of moving parts. But in reality, there's hundreds, if not thousands of Sun City residents each doing their part to make it come together. We see the board in action at these meetings, but the real work is done in the background at clubs and organizations and churches and in committee rooms. From the beginning, people have embraced Sun City and fought to make it better, stronger and able to endure. For that reason alone you should pick up a copy of Sun City 1960 - 2016 The Best Is Yet To Come. It's our story and in it you will read about the defining difference from every other age restricted community out there. We are truly something very special and the better you can get your arms around it, the more opportunity we have to grow.
