English writer and poet Lewis Carroll said it best, "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there," and that's exactly where I felt this meeting was going! Is it just me or are these meetings becoming the old Bill Murry movie, Groundhog Day? Every meeting seems to start out the same as the previous weeks where nobody understands that they are not going to get everything they ask for but they keep right on asking!?!?! I have no idea what these meetings will determine in the end but I can pretty much guarantee that once the Town Hall Meetings start everything the SAC committee determined will be for naught! Just another 2 hours of my life I'll never get back! Just my opinion!
The ideas in the vacuum are still floating around the empty space. The actual mission for the committee seems to be a controversy. In my opinion the committee might be wise to develop two or three options to present the board. Some with the PAC at MV and some with PAC at Lakeview. Let the board and community then hash these options out with the board making a final decision. This is what will happen anyway, I believe. The budget questions seem lost in the vacuum also, but I won’t go there yet.
I get the impression that the board would prefer that the decisions are made by the Members after they go thru the Town Hall meetings but I may be wrong. It'll be interesting to see if the three Directors on the SAC committee actually cast a vote on anything at their meeting or would they rather remain impartial since they will have to vote when the final report/motion is made to the board from the SAC committee? I think it was the intention that the SAC committee was made-up of Members and not necessarily board members but the RCSC bylaws require all committee meetings to chaired and co-chaired by Directors. I feel sorry for the architect because she's trying to go down one path while the members of the committee are each going down their own! I think the architect was brought in way to late and even she is still finding out things that she should have been informed about much earlier.
I like the Lewis Carrol quote! I say, “if no one knows, then no one knows.” Or maybe Yogi Berra said that? Spent two hours listening to meeting and will hopefully spend two hours watching video of meeting. Couldn’t understand what Kat Fimmel said during the meeting. Hard to hear on my phone.
He was also the author of Alice's Adventure in Wonderland (1865)! Talk about "going down the rabbit hole", that seems to be exactly where the SAC committee went!! At one point the architect was referring to the information she received from the board president and Kat was just trying to clarify, for the record, that she wasn't the president at the time. She later discussed (near the end of the meeting) with the architect the timeline for having some dollar numbers available for the Sept. 28th board meeting. Not sure how that will happen because the architect wanted some contractual issues adjusted by this Monday so that she go ahead compiling those numbers. Not sure if that would require a special meeting of the board to revise that contract?
Thanks for that info FYI! I had that same thought about AIWL. Wasn’t sure Lewis Carrol wrote it. Yes another great description of the meeting. All that aside, I do respect and appreciate the work everyone is putting into this difficult process.
This happens when too many people are involved with a financial stake in it. It may be a slow process but unless people bend some its going to be a no process. The pickleball fight appears to be wearing thin and unsupported by any meaningful number.
Watched the video of this meeting today. Towards the end the architect said they were told lawn bowling was not on the table for change.(I am paraphrasing) I was under the impression that everything and anything was an option for the SAC. Maybe I misunderstood what she meant. Wondering if the committee told her this or it came from the Board of Directors? Any thoughts or info about this?
In my opinion; everything should be on the table. Compromise means exactly that. I thought the best question asked was by Norm Dickson when he inquired whether the architect could provide at the next meeting these there things regarding the PAC: 1). The cost to remodel/renovate the existing building at MV. 2). The cost to plow it all under and start from scratch at MV. 3). The cost to build a new theater at Lakeview that they could start on without infringing on the existing building. Those numbers, in my opinion will result in our "come to Jesus moment."
I gotta Lol with Jesus! Seriously though, I basically agree. Thought I heard the architect say getting all those numbers together would take to much time, though maybe they could come up with ballpark figures. Norm and others really want to take advantage of lake views and moving the lawn bowl courses at Lakeview would open a great area for views. Catch-22 on that idea.
The problem with doing anything at Lakeview is once they start, they best keep going and the simply don't have the money in hand for that project. I don't think they have the money in hand to do a new PAC and then all the other stuff they are asking for at MV. Once the new pricing on a build from scratch theater is priced out is when reality will set in and decisions will need to be made across the board. The bigger issue for me is the idea about the suggestion they keep making to bundle all of the PIF in one fund. I don't like the idea we throw out the best decision a RCSC board of directors ever made with an idea that co-mingles funds into capital expenses and yearly operating budget. I loved the suggestion we increase PIF to 5k and set the $1000 increase in a capital expenses account and the remaining 4 million dollars into PIF. I hope they resolve MV by years end and get started immediately. That way, 4 or 5 years later, we can evaluate how much the covid19 bump will have leveled off and we can better see what the Gen X are really looking for.
