Is it just me - and the folks I am trying to have a conversation with on my patio, but does the Sound of Freedom emanating from Luke Air Force Base today seem particularly overbearing? It has been going on for hours now. What's up?
Sometimes the Luke Base will show when a new class of trainees are here and what country they're from. Haven't seen that information lately. At the end of the month when activity is up we joke that they're using up the last of their monthly fuel allotment. This weekend NASCAR is in town for the season Championship races and it will bring huge crowds to the valley. Security will be amped up and the jets also practice for the flyovers at the race track. There are so many jets now stationed at Luke that we'll be hearing it more often going forward. It'd be great if they could have floating signs that said "No Jet Jake Brakes Over Populated Areas".
Ah -- the sound of freedom. I routinely have to mute my mike on a zoom meetings and phone calls since the noise overrides it all. My wife and I often have to stop talking with each other/visitors until the noise subsides. I can't tell you how many TV shows we've missed key plot info. This occurs indoors with windows/doors closed. Luke made a big claim that the F35 jets were only marginally louder than the F16s. I can assure you that isn't true. They claimed their departure tracks wouldn't be over SC -- I can assure you that often isn't always the case. Luke is a lot different since Dell Web constructed it in the early 40's and they flew AT-6s. Luke was decommissioned in 1946, reactivated 1951. It's hard to rationalize it long term as housing fills in the emptiness in the West Valley with housing.
