Why has this site deteriorated to the point of name calling of the posters? This activity is beyond reprehensible and needs to end now! This a site dedicated to discussing the issues of the community, not for airing personal grievances long gone by. I ask kindly for this to come to an end now.

This has always been my favorite site to view and engage in. I will not site idly by an watch it descend into a name calling, little substantiated place to try to attack others! If this is your sole purpose of engaging on here, then you have not found the right place to be.

In other words, take it elsewhere, the name calling, and denigration of fellow members will not be tolerated. I am angry and ashamed to see this behavior on this site. I expect it to end immediately.

PS I don't want to hear who started it, or when, or however else you feel justified. STOP

    OPINION (Sun City Independent)
Sun Citian suggests Mountain View renovation options
    Posted Tuesday, February 10, 2026
✍️ By Mack Beth | Sun City
OPINION — Everyone I talk to wants to move forward quickly with the Mountain View rec center renovation. So do I!

They also believe it is financially reckless (perhaps ruinous) for the board to approve without considering another design of a special purpose theater for a small but very vocal group: The Players. So do I!

The Players have a special committee to lobby the board to get a theater for themselves.

Many, many members ask me why the board intentionally ignored recommendations of the Long-Range Planning Committee and by the membership to consider options like Sundial for the Players recreational activities.

Almost universally I hear the same comment — I don’t show up because the board will carry out their agenda regardless of what I say. So true — they are the Players’ proxy.

But what about when certain board officers may have secretly encouraged the GM to shut down the libraries so the space could be used for an indoor dog facility or the board unilaterally decided to build a theater at Lakeview? Why did they not happen? Because members showed up in force to say that is not how I want my money spent.

I am against being bullied into paying for a very expensive special purpose theater ($14M?) by one club’s lobbying committee. Let’s move forward quickly with Mountain View renovation in a financially responsible way.

My recommendation is building a much less expensive ($4M to $6M) multipurpose building at Mountain View in the same footprint as the theater for all (sports, social, performers, etc.) to enjoy for years to come.

I am asking the Players to find a way to use Sundial for their recreational activities just like every other Sun City performance group does. Nothing else in the proposed plan would change.

Interesting pen name choice ~ Macbeth, themes of ambition, guilt, and deception, most notably,
"Fair is foul, and foul is fair.”

It seems that the theater is causing the most consternation. I also thought Sun Dial would be the best place because of parking and location. Perhaps a building that could work as a theater and multi purpose center would still make the most sense at MV.

Update on Performing Arts Center as of 2/26.

NEW PAC PROGRESS First, thanks to the many Players members who heeded the call and attended the update meeting Tuesday night, Jan 13, 2026, at Sundial regarding the plans for the Mountain View campus. Our “showing up” made a very strong impression on the RCSC Board members and on all who attended.

There were two purposes for this meeting. First, the architects, Tri-arc, wanted to propose three alternative plans for the Mountain View overall renovations (SS photo). Option 3 includes most of what has been requested by the community.

Option 3A is the “barebones” alternative, and revises or eliminates several items.

Option 3B represents a compromise of sorts, a middle ground between 3 and 3A, and the bottom-line cost is closest to the actual PIF budget for Mountain View. 3B and 3A represent reductions in size for the PAC.

Players leadership wants Option 3 but recognizes we might have to settle for Option 3B. Option 3A is by far the least favorable option.

The second purpose of the meeting was to move towards a decision on fixed vs movable seating for the PAC. From the discussion it was very clear that the best alternative is fixed seating, in terms of cost, flexibility, and usefulness by your senior population. And the RCSC board seemed to agree.

When asked about the timeline, the board seemed comfortable with and is still hoping that groundbreaking would be by the end of 2026.

I encourage all our members to find opportunities to communicate with the board members and express your wishes for the best possible PAC money can buy.

Please feel to contact me if you have questions or suggestions. Tom Swenson 623-999-8714, tlswenson1950@gmail.com.

Update: At the RCSC Board Meeting on Thursday, Jan 29, 2026, a motion was made and approved by the Board to go ahead with Option 3B.

And so the squeaky wheel got the grease!

And it's not that the Players got to get their theater, it's where and how it ended-up to be!

It's a travesty of fiduciary responsibility to not even have had TriARC evaluate SunDial.

I could live with a determination that Sun Dial wasn't viable, but they never took the time to even look.

Can't wait to hear about the parking problems! Gonna need a parking lot shuddle on performance days!

“I encourage all our members to find opportunities to communicate with the board members and express your wishes for the best possible PAC money can buy.”

This statement is indicative of the Players’ lack of consideration for the membership and acceptance of best reasonable seating and other design elements available within budget.

All special interest groups just focus on their wants, not what’s in the community’s best interest. There’s no way putting millions of dollars into a PAC that serves a few hundred people is in the community’s best interest.

IMHO no society can survive corruption and collusion. Many have witnessed the underhanded and distortive tactics of this board firsthand. What bothers me most is each director misrepresented their true intentions to get elected to the board. I recently requested the attendance figures for the Players. What I got was the reported ticket sales for the plays. IMHO the attendance was pitiful! The board knew what I was requesting was how many club members used the auditorium each day it was reserved for their use. Moreover, they only produced the reported ticket sales after the exchange meeting was held. Cute trick. I will go back again with the request and, even though the data is readily available on an RCSC computer, the board will stall providing the information until after the member meeting. GUARANTEED!

Some of make no waves friends say so what. Add a few hundred dollars to the assessment, we can all afford it. Who cares if others can't! Do you care?

I believe these numbers are self reported numbers from the players, and they tend to be alittle generous with there reporting. These are anytime the players, or any sub group do anything at any rec center. It is not the attendance numbers from the performances.

Yes, the club attendance, from RCSC Management Reports. Links in previous post.

Rather than question each other, perhaps it is best to focus on the issue instead. The reality of this very bad situation is the board has approved a multimillion dollar boondoggle that will squarely cost members more each year in annual assessments alone. I have been researching through state agencies, ways to report a board for not meeting their fiduciary duties. Along with reporting such activity, comes documentation that I have been trying to work on, but have some medical issues slowing me down dramatically. There are ways to report such actions and activities, but it does require some additional documentation that I need to gather. As son as I feel much better, I will try to put together a comprehensive report of the boards complete disregard for its fiduciary duty to the members and see if anything thing comes out of the report I make. I may be down, but I am not out.

And the unintended consequences of not instructing TriARC to do an evaluation, and the possible upgrade of using Sun Dial rather building a brand new single-use facility is the fact that the RCSC cannot even offer the Players the use of Sun Dial during the interim time the old building is demolished and new building is completed.

If the RCSC were to offer the Players the use of Sun Dial, they would be admitting that Sun Dial was, in fact, a viable facility.

So now the Players could possibly be required to pay to rent outside space unless they can find suitable space among one of the existing RCSC Rec Centers!

When all is said and done, if this project continues down the present course, it appears to me that the board is going to spend $30 million to appease less than 500 members which would include all audience members! Let’s bring changes. John, am I wrong?

    Larry,

Yup. And many of those 500 either don't use Mountainview or are not RCSC members. On average less than 5 people a day would use the best theater money can buy. And yet the Board continues to hide the facts.
