Truly an amazing day as the Secret Service did a great job protecting the former president. While we are all thankful the gunman never got a shot off, the reality of a country where there are almost twice as many guns as people is terrifying on so many levels. My first thought was how in the world did we get to a point where those deranged individuals who should never come anywhere near owning a gun, are wandering around with AK47's. Where was the outcry for sanity as hundreds of school kids have been shot down in their classroom? Is there any remorse from those right wing politician's who thought it was cute to send out Christmas cards with the whole family clutching their AR's? Instead, we have watched those on the right, who have taken massive donations from the National Rifle Association, stand in the way of any serious attempts for some common sense gun reform. What's even more insane is, the majority of American's want to see that reform. Once again, the minority dictates over the wishes of the majority. My second thought was, maybe i should post the names of those killed as they sat in their classroom. Using them to make a point would be insensitive. The reality is, they went off to school and never returned home. Too bad the angst wasn't there for them, like it has been the former president. Here's some stats that popped up when i did a search; staggering: * 500 plus million civilian-owned firearms in the US. * Only 6.06 million registered (registration not required). * 82,880,000 people own at least one gun. Do the math how that shakes out. Don't even get me started on why the congress allowed the Brady bill to sunset. Automatic style rifles and high capacity clips are a senseless argument. We've simply reaped exactly what we have sown. It's a sad day in America for all of us.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” I did not read your post, however if you would apply a little common sense (sorry if you are lacking) back when I was in school 1960 thru 1972 there were no school/mass shootings that I remember. Maybe it's because we were taught respect for elders and got smacked if we didn't. Most of the school shootings today are by spoiled little brats who have some kind of mental disorder their parents try to remedy with drugs. God forbid you spank little Johnny's butt. We now have Depression and anxiety, Behavioral disorders, such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct disorder. What in the hell? The nuns walked by and we got smacked with a ruler if we were daydreaming. Now that's too harsh so let's shove a bunch of drugs down their throats resulting in severe mental disease. Throw in the trans effect and that gives the kids the right to grab dad's gun and play gangster. You are so freakin off base. My dad had guns. I never knew it. The only gun he bought me was a cap gun. Unlike the dude that just bought his mentally ill kid an AR 15, no Bill it does not stand for assault rifle. Kids have tats and piercings all over their bodies and wonder why they can't get a job. I blame the parents for the actions of these kids. Not how many guns are in America. BTW as usual you did not answer my question. Do you own a gun? Is this another defer and deflect?
I like your epigraph, you know what it means? Read Article 1, section 8 of the Constitution to lean more and why Antonin Scalia and the right wing Supreme Court justices are a bunch of cowardly pussies.
For the record, I own an antique firearm, 108 years old. I have no ammo for it and I inherited it from my brother several years ago. It is in a safe deposit box.
