It's funny how as one ages, the things that get them excited take on a whole new perspective. Don't get me wrong, I still get giddy as we drive into Las Vegas (and more so when we leave); still get the cold sweats before a lawn bowling tournament and last night doing that huge piece of salmon on the grill was a thing of beauty. And while all of those are crank-turners, last week brought 2 emails that made me down right salivate (drool on myself in Sun City vernacular). The first was from the folks at 55 Places inviting me to participate in an online piece about Sun City via a question and answer format. I've been bugging the owners for years, while their site is spectacular, their interactive component to it sucks (sorry guys, tact isn't my long suit). The other was even more intriguing. The National Conference of the American Planning Association will be held in April of 2016 and they want to look at Sun City AZ from a both a historical and current standpoint. They would schedule a visit to the museum and want me to do a piece on the evolution of Sun City and age restricted communities. Of course I said yes to both. Sun City, from its inception, has been placed under a microscope and for good reason. It was initially called "the great social experiment," and to this day is still a modern wonder of a community apart from all others. Any chance we get to showcase it only amplifies the beauty of such a simple concept that has succeeded beyond anyone's most wild of imagination. By the way, the salmon off the grill was outstanding.
Can we watch the Online event? Please let us know when The National Conference will visit. Of course the newspaper should be notified. Also, the SCRC. When I was at Sun Dial pool yesterday, the Visitor Center bus people had stopped for a look. I didn't get to see the bus.
