This morning, Thursday Oct 24 at 10:00 am you can meet the 4 candidates for the SCHOA board of directors. The town hall type forum will be at Fairway Rec Center and hosted by the Sun City Home Owners association. On the program will be a 45 minute presentation on the history of the marketing of Sun City by the Del E Webb Corporation (DEVCO) in their early years. I will be putting the program on with Bret McKeand from the Independent Newspaper who was a reporter in Sun City back in the 80's. Bret is currently on the board of the museum and has a wealth of knowledge along with some wonderful photo's. Hope some of you can make it, it truly is a fascinating story on Sun City became one of the pre-eminent age restricted communities in the world.
Great turnout for the meeting and folks seemed to enjoy the historical look back. Guess that's to be expected because the history of this community is something very special. Yearly we see dozens of visitors trying to get their head around how we managed to overcome the odds and survive with a self-governed community that relied on their own initiative, energy and creativity. Sun City has always been something special and to this day, still is. One of these days i'll do a brief recap of the marketing of the community. Without question, it was a page straight from the TV series Mad Men.
