The Sun City Foundation has been in existence since 1986. The primary function is to help those who have outlived their resources by assisting residents pay their lot assessments (rec fees). The original founders of the foundation saw the potential for the organization to be so much more but for whatever reason it became far less than planned.

For the past year and a half we (the foundation board) began a quest to evolve into something more. We understood the importance of looking at "big picture" Sun City and how the foundation could fit better into playing a more pivotal role within the community. On Saturday June 8 from 7:30 am till noon, we will be hosting an important event for those with concerns for their eyes.

The morning long educational program is co-sponsored by Banner Olive Branch Senior Center and Operation American Patriot (OAP). Both play an important part in our community and it's one of the reasons the Foundation felt partnering with them was great move. More information them later in the week.

There is an increasing number of macular degeneration cases being seen by doctors across the country. They have identified in part it due to what the experts call "the blue light epidemic." Nope, nothing to do with those K-Mart specials, this is all about how we are living today. The explosion of flat panel televisions, computer monitors, ipads, tablets and cell phones are causing immense strain on our eyes. Throw in the UV problems for those of us living in the valley of the sun and this is a topic that is spot on for all active Sun City residents.

Hope you all can join us as we explore solutions to this daunting problem and begin to shape the Foundations future. Again, the details are:
    Date: Saturday June 8.
Time: Doors open 7:30 coffee, cookies and eye testing. Program begins at 8:30.
    Place: Sundial auditorium.

Too bad you won't be around bmac. Just got a great promo for the event on Sonoran Living on one of the local stations.

Seems odd to say, but i'm actually looking forward to this program. I spend a lot of time in the sun and way too many hours in front of the computer monitor.

I don't blame you!! fun and sun is always good but I like the computer too and the good people of Sun City having their own place to discuss everything in Sun City and just a bunch of fun stuff too!! We need more posters like yourself on this site as it's growing all the time. I am still learning but you look experienced with a site like talkofsuncity... So glad to have ya... If you know other Sun City residents from sites you have been on you might want to spread the word they have a home here. ;) Enjoy your event this weekend!!

Pretty good Ken. We had about 200 people. Next week those of us that were involved will get together to evaluate it. We looked at this event like a soft opening, with plans of doing it again in October when more people are in town. We'll tweak it, work out the kinks and make the next one bigger and better.

More important for me is the fact the Sun City Foundation is moving in a wholly new direction.

I would promote it on this site as you get closer to the next one... It looks like you could get a bigger turnout as this site keeps growing and you can reach more people... just a thought..
