    I suspect many of you are on the Sun City Advocates email list and got this yesterday. Those of you who are not. may appreciate the reminder of the final RCSC board meeting before the summer break. Here it is:

    Voicing Opinions on Quorums and Member-Initiated Bylaw Changes

    Hey Advocates, hoping all is well as we start the climb into the 100-plus degree temps. For those of us who stay, the summers are a time many of us have a love/hate relationship with our Sun City home. Traffic drops off to a bare minimum as well as stores are less crowded. On the other hand, the heat by midday is stifling, and worse yet as months roll on, it never seems to cool down; save for the occasional monsoon where we get drenched and cooled off (sometimes). Thank goodness for the readily accessible pools at 7 of our recreation centers. Did you know, pool usage is the one statistic that increases in numbers during the summer months?

    Weather reports aside, the final RCSC board meeting before the two-month hiatus is on Thursday, June 29th. The meeting begins at 9am at the Sun Dial Auditorium.

    There are a couple of motions worth noting;
    • The one we are following closely is to reduce the quorum to 500 for the annual membership this November. If you want to speak for or against the motion, you need to get there before the meeting starts and sign up.
    • The second motion needs to be made more clear as it talks about a motion regarding the bylaws made and passed by the members is final. While we understand the motion, no bylaw revisions are ever final, they are always a "work in progress."
    One last thought regarding both; do not waive the second reading, there is no reason to do that.

    SAC Continues to Meet Over the Summer
    It is worth noting, while the board is taking a break for the summer, the Strategic Alternatives Committee (SAC) will continue to meet as they try to find reasonable solutions to the Mountain View remodel. It's been a fascinating exercise in community involvement as they have reached across a broad spectrum of interested parties and the path forward is still in question. If you haven't been paying attention, you may want to click on this link and you can catch up with the meetings and summaries to date.

    Problematic PIF Predicaments
    At the last Exchange meeting, I brought up a 20-year member who was being charged a Preservation and Improvement Fee (PIF) again. Nope, she didn't sell her house, her husband died a year or so ago and now they are demanding $4000 plus dollars (PIF plus interest and legal fees) for her to continue to use the amenities. This isn't a new phenomenon, it's quietly been a problem for years. There's been a plethora of opinions regarding this matter. I wrote my take on the matter on Talk of Sun City (TOSC) and you can read the thread Injustice by clicking here.

    Repaired, Refilled, and Refreshing - Viewpoint Lake Project on Track to Reopen this Fall

    Finally, we would be remiss in not acknowledging the incredible job the RCSC has done on the Viewpoint Lake project. Work has been ongoing for a year. The really great news is they are on schedule and the latest report was they would begin refilling it in August. On top of that, they have been diligent in meeting with lake lot owners and complaints have been held to a minimum. We all are looking forward to this project being completed and our much-loved setting being reopened. Kudos.

    We will follow up the board meeting with a blog post and summary. For now, try and stay cool.

    As always, one man's opinion.
