Went to their site www.scrvcompound.com and it had some fascinating history so thought I'd post it here:

Condensed History of Sun Cities Compound:
First Compound: 103rd Avenue and Oakmont was expanded two times to Alabama Avenue. It took one day to move 1st compound to 2nd compound.
Second Compound: Located on northeast corner of 103rd Avenue & Santa Fe Drive. This compound was expanded three times and entered from 103rd Avenue. It existed from May 1965 to May 1970.
Third Compound: This compound was located on Sunland Drive behind Sunland Memorial Park. This compound started out with 735 spaces but it was expanded three times – the last time right up to Sunland’s fence. In October 1977, a three year contract was made with Del Webb Corporation for a new compound.
Fourth Compound: Negotiations for this compound started in 1981. Del Webb Corporation gave the compound 107 acres of land which Webb held title for 20 years. At the end of the 20 years, they turned the title over to the compound. Any improvements that we wanted to make in those 20 years had to be approved by Webb before changes were made. The compound was composed of directors from Sun City and Sun City West. Webb Corporation built 60 acres of the compound, and Sun City/Sun City West Corporation ran it.
The Minutes of February 13th, 1984 stated that each (Club) Board should elect one, two, and three year members starting on January 1st, 1985. Sun City West pulled names out of a hat to see who would be the members. The compound is now managed by directors who are current members in good standing.
In December 1984, we were able to take possession and moved the following in: a trailer office, boat racks, sheds, and a Sun City West maintenance trailer.
The opening of the new compound started on December 17th, 1984 as a rehearsal of how our plans would work out when the real move started on January 2nd. Between December 17th and December 22nd about 30 trailers were moved in. The spaces were assigned in a fair manor so that every club member from each of the Webb communities received a space. The first trailer in the compound on December 17th was a fifth wheel. In 1990, we entered the computer era and had 1700 names on it to start.

In 1993, we found that we could get onto the Sun City’s sewer system and wrote to Webb that we wanted to do that. They approved as long as we paid for it. That same year, we built a guard house and hired security guards. We were never happy with the road into the compound. We complained about the road to every agency and finally in 1995, Maricopa County Supervisors and Maricopa Department of Transportation decided to build a new road.
Frank C. Robinson, Del Webb Vice President of Land Development, attended our annual meeting on December 13th, 1996, stating that they would develop another 28 acres of our compound if we’d take their new development, Sun City Grand, into our compound. The spaceholders voted along with the Board of Directors to take them in for the new expansion. Our compound was overflowing with R.V.’s and even the temporary area was full. In 1997, the new expansion area was finally complete and Sun City Grand moved in.
In 2005, the most southern 12 acres were developed. Since this land was in the flood plain, fill had to be brought in to put it above the flood plain. In 2017 the latest section of land was completed. The compound is now complete.
As of this writing in December 2017, there are about 5,000 spaces in the world’s best compound. We, the members of the Del Webb Communities, are very lucky people to have such a place to store our R.V.s.

So my question is, this is actually in Surprise, not Sun City right? People on Nextdoor are split between saying it's in Sun City, Sun City West and Surprise, claiming that the mailing address is not an indication of the actual address. Their website lists its location this way: "16315 N. 115th Ave. Surprise, AZ 85378 South on 114th Ave@Bell Rd." I tired to Mapquest and Google Maps it, but those maps don't show city boundaries very clearly, but any Sun City paper map I've seen didn't include it, so I'd appreciate it if someone would clear this up. Thanks!

Good morning all. According to the Maricopa County mapping site the RV Compound is in an unincorporated area of Maricopa County so not within the city limits of Surprise, Sun City West or El Mirage. South of Bell is unincorporated Sun City and north of Bell is Surprise so maybe the mailing location is north of Bell? Check out the wealth of information at www.maricopa.gov under their city limits page.

Fascinating scj, never paid any attention to this intriguing story. I've been reading through old newspaper files and have seen stories about being in a different location, never realizing there were that many. For anyone who hasn't peaked over the fence abutting the RV Compound on the Riverview golf course, you should. It is simply an amazing site; a sea of motor homes. Be sure to do it before or after the golfers are off the course though.

Thank you aggie. So you see it as part of unincorporated Sun City? It still kinda confuses me as yes, it's unincorporated just as is Sun City, but is it really Sun City? I can't see that it is actually part of us and no other maps that I know of show it is within our boundaries, so maybe it's just unincorporated land and not affiliated with any city? Is that even a thing? Maybe I'll just call Maricopa....

Strange that it's different than what they post on the Sun Cities RV website 16315 N. 115th Ave. Surprise, AZ 85378, but guess Maricopa Cty. Tax Assessor's gotta be the one to go with. Weird. Thanks!

Could be the Compound gets mail service from the Surprise USPS, so they publicize that address rather than the true physical address of record.
