Someone asked about snowbirds. They start to leave around the beginning of April and return 4-6 months later. It is my understanding that the people from Canada have to live there 6 months in order to maintain their health insurance. Consequently, they spend 6 months there and 6 months here. Even a 1 day trip across the border is counted so they have to be quite vigilant about their time. All, in all, I believe nearly half of Sun Citians are snowbirds. That equates to a lot less traffic. Especially those dangerous golf cars. My church even eliminates 1 mass May through October. I would not like to be a snowbird because it seems like a lot of work. I heard of one person who returned to Sun City and the house was overrun with cockroaches. Not fun! Of course, you would have to well off in order to afford 2 residences. Even snowbirds have to pay a rec fee. It went up this year to $450. Still a bargain.
You will notice a lot of license plates from other states. That is because a vehicle plate probably costs less in home state. I believe some snowbirds don't file an Arizona state tax although there is one called AZPT (Arizona Part Time). I could be wrong on that so check it out.
