Director Schroder has put a motion on the Agenda for the 9/30 Board Meeting. He is proposing a one word change to the bylaws in several places where it is stated that the board SHALL use Robert's Rules of Order. He wants to change SHALL to MAY. This one word change is a POWER-GRAB. It tilts things in the board's favor. We should all oppose this change. Sign up to speak to this motion. This change is WRONG. The bylaws should not be changed. If the board wants to propose an alternative to Robert's Rules of Order, that could be acceptable. Just making it optional is WRONG. On many occasions Director Hoeffer has quoted Robert's Rules of Order to try and limit member comments. He would be able to continue to quote it. However we could not quote it back. WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! I know that many people are angry about the Karen McAdam dismissal. Don't let this anger blind you to this motion.
It is a ludicrous proposal on it's face. It amplifies the board's desire to just do what they want. Years back, the board had a parliamentarian sitting on the stage to rule on their actions so they didn't step in it. Apparently there was/has been a discussion to put Hoffer in that position once he is off the board. Sorry, i want an expert who actually knows and understands RR's and can insure the board does things right. If this language is changed, they can never be in error with their actions. The good news is Mike, most of the people started being angry about how Karen was treated, now they are just pissed by the board's arrogance.
They will simply become lawless, which will only make it much harder for future board members to find any guidance from the rules. Hell,... they don't even follow their own bylaws let alone Robert's Rules! They can't have it both ways and only follow Robert's Rules when it benefits them but ignore them when it comes to us!
