There is something special/different about Sun City. That's not a new or startling revelation; and the beauty of it is, working or retired, the benefits are witnessed every day you get to be here. Whether it's ease of access to the amenities, the multitude of clubs or the convenience of a self-contained community, one can't help but smile about the good fortune of finding this little gem in the desert. There is an added dimension that all too often is forgotten. The reality is we were built as a "retirement" community; the tragedy is, all too many people are finding it almost impossible to be able to retire. Dozens of articles every year document the fact people will be working later in their lives. As defined pension plans have gone bye the bye, working men and women are left to their own devices. There is however still a number of buyers who have the good fortune to leave the workplace behind and actually not go to work. That of unto itself is a topic worthy of lengthy discourse, but for our purposes, I want to focus on "retirement" in Sun City. One of the old adages we have heard forever is when you retire, you need to stay busy. Got it, and perhaps it was the reason I didn't find leaving work to be so frightening. As a workaholic, most of my co-works who knew me said I'd be back working within 6 months. Huh! Little did they know about Sun City and all it had to offer. We know several folks from this site have bought property in Sun City. As the start to drift in and settle, I would love to hear their thoughts on those first months of not working and beginning to explore what Sun City has to offer. My wife described it to an interviewer on BBC radio as akin to being a kid who gets to the summer break from school and heading off to the playground every morning. The very idea of being able to do what you want, when you want sounds almost too good to be true. It's why Sun City was so appealing; everything there was to do here was affordable and within reach from a cost standpoint. The funny thing is most folks find a handful of things and never look at what else is out there. So my tip for newbies is, keep digging, keep exploring to get your head around all Sun City offers. It's almost beyond belief (the first year, is truly a joy you will never forget). How does it get any better than that?
