I wish they would call a Special Executive Session to solve the $1000 CIF fee for those who signed contracts in 2023! I get it, we can't learn what was discussed in Executive Session but they can certainly make public the remedy since it effects the public and new Members!
Would be nice to know the elements before starting to discuss at the meeting. How about a list? Might make the discussion more productive.
I think Tim Nixon laid it out pretty clearly at the last Member/Board Exchange. But I think the bottom line is that it should have never gotten to the point where the complaint needed to be made public. The RCSC should have resolved this internally once they discovered there was a problem.
Would be beneficial for all if a timely News Update about the CIF is posted at the RCSC News Hub. More likely, a mention is made at the beginning of this special session about the Mountain View project, maybe?
Chiming in on the previous “need to know”comments: This Special Session is not listed on the RCSC Board and Committee Meetings or Breaking News webpage. Why not? (It’s added now to Board Meetings 1.13.24) About the Special Session… Unfortunately, an agenda is not required for a called Special Session. • Will the board do more than, “discuss the elements of the new Mountain View project?” • Is the board intending to make, or have they made, a decision on how to move forward with a Mountain View plan? • Will a motion be made and voted on by the board at this Special Session? • If so, will a second reading be required, or waived? • Are members allowed to join the discussion with questions and comments at any time during the Session? Just wondering…hmmm.
No joke EO! And I just want to know the “elements” for discussion. Great questions EO. Guess we find out on Thursday.
I'm not so sure anything will actually be decided with a vote? I'm kinda expecting that this may be more of an informative meeting to let us know what they are planning then let the members make some comments. I fully expect that the final MV design will be presented with a motion at a board meeting? I just hope this doesn't open up another can of worms...one step forward, two steps back!

Meeting Subject: General Manager Bill Cook – Request for the approval of the final budget to replace the Lakes East/West Golf and Grounds Maintenance Buildings at a cost of $3,948,872. Shouldn't be a surprise as this has been the BOD's MO for 20+ years. "One step forward and two step back Nobody gets too far like that One step forward and two steps back This kind of dance can never last".......................Desert Rose Band
Irrespective of what happens at the Special Session, the very idea they are willing to communicate openly and in front of the membership is a plus. New board, new general manager and a wholly new direction are in place and as promised acting out to find the solution. I think it is safe to say, clear cut decisions regarding MV won't be the order of the day, but i suspect you will find some drilling down to what makes the most sense from the collective group of this new crew. Working with the membership has been their commitment and it looks and sounds like what they are doing on the 18th is exactly that (thanks for the correction eo). We've all lived through vacuum's of information where a handful of board members, working in conjunction with the general manager, simply told us where we were going. I'm not sure how many of you were around for the past 20 years, but it went from an effectively run organization with absolute member feedback and input to one where all of the safeguards were destroyed and dismantled, piece by piece. Putting them back together is a process and cannot/will not be done quickly and without some forethought. Sorry, but it is unreasonable to expect it to be done that way. Finally and let me be very clear about this: Sun City was the first of it's kind. It has been studied and used as "the blueprint" by everyone who has followed in our footsteps. Along with Sun City West, we are two of the most unique age restricted communities in the nation. We have the most amenities at the least cost. We made a mistake and drifted from our core values and the need to take care of what we owned. We are back and on track. We also know the vast majority of people buying in Sun City love their decision to move here and over the next 5 years will love it even more. Those that don't, should make every effort to find their "happy place." Simple enough eh?
I'm expecting the board to make some sort of commitment as far as design and amenities go then allow comments from the Members which will allow them to drill down the details a little deeper. Since the special session is 7 days away from the next Board meeting it will still give them enough time to come up with a motion and post it so that it can be presented and voted on at the next regular meeting? Just a guess!
One would think eh? Not necessarily that easy for someone living on SSI, which many folks are. Hindsight is 20/20...if only I had known 15 years ago what I know now. I am not the only one who feels this way according to different social media platforms. Sometimes you have to look outside the "walls" to see how others perceive a particular situation. https://www.atticus.com/advice/general/2024s-small-cola-increase-leaves-seniors-struggling

I know some like to belittle my references to our history, but what we know is this: history matters; it always has, it always will. Sun City began as a community built for low to moderate income retirees. By 1964 that business plan/model was dead in the water. Webb was ready to pull the plug and sent John Meeker in to revive the community or contain it south of Grand Ave. John Meeker's plan was far more encompassing. He saw the value of opening the market up by enhancing the amenities and attracting those with more than just the bare minimum of retirement income. By the time Sun City was built out, the claim was made there were more millionaires in Sun City than in Scottsdale (no idea if it was true). Even with all of that money in banks, the community always attempted to be conservative. In 1981/1982 the battle grounds were set. DEVCO had left and those who just wanted it to just be a cheap place to live ran against those who understood the amenities the company left us needed to be cared for. Those wanting something more than a cheap place to live, won out. Costs have steadily risen since then and they always will. Then again in 1998/1999, with the aging facilities needing upgrades, the board acted as one and passed the PIF. Of course there was some outrage, but the vast majority saw the act of passing a point of sale "tax" on new buyers as a logical step. Since that time we've seen many upgrades as the money has been invested in preserving our future. It was sheer genius on the part of that board. And to be really, really clear, Sun City has also been committed to helping those who have outlived their resources. Take your pick, the Sun City Foundation, Sun City Community Assistance Network (CAN), Sunshine Services, Olive Branch Senior Center and a host of others have been around to help. Sun City was built on a platform of taking care of our own. When i look across the spectrum of age restricted communities there are more than a few with $200-$400 monthly assessment fees. Yes, MONTHLY. And to be even more clear, most if not all of those communities have tax bases that include school districts adding to their monthly/yearly fees. Sun City doesn't. By the way, Sun City West is built on a nearly identical platform with many of the same supporting services. I'll close as i so often open: History Matters.
Yeah, Yeah. I know about CAN and SCF. I have an application from SCF. I don't trust any SC org. Doxxed on here. There is a member here that is on another platform I am on who is less than ethical. I don't want anyone associated with SC to have that much info about my personal business. I worked for Banner who has a Foundation and Human Resources. The sheer volume of people that have access to information is amazing. They come and go. Not all will keep your info private. Hard to believe there are folks that would share that type of info, however they do exist. Trust but verify is not always applicable to every situation and all people.
Happy Hippie, I attended the Sun City Foundation Board meeting this week. They would like to help more RCSC Members but don't get many applications. The Seniors for Santa gift cards were distributed to only 32 people this year. Each person received $350 worth of gift cards. Please, if you or any others you know need financial help, complete their application. Some of their Board members are more than happy to help individuals complete those forms. Their guidelines include people whose incomes are 150% of the poverty level so I think many on SSI would qualify. The Foundation also helps Members pay their annual lot assessments. Everything is confidential!
I would have believed that a while ago. After being doxxed here and the grief from other SC social media not any more. The person who doxxed me here said he only used my first name, then went on to say he could cite info I had posted on FB. Obviously he thinks the people of SC are to ignorant to put two and two together. I know who eyes open is but would NEVER use a first or last name on a platform where someone obviously wants to be anonymous. SCF wants more info than APS and COX combined for the $575. No thanks. I may not be able to move yet, but I can inform others.
