The rains came like a violent - tempered creature of nature. Lightening, Thunder and rain, rain, & rain. All that rain doesn't happen often on our desert area -- but when it does -- beware ! Our streets are not equipped for that type of storm and that amount of rain. Our street drainage system is also not prepared for those downpours - -and what we get is massive flooding and/or damage. Add a little wind to the mess and - - now we have a photographer's wish -- to get those pictures ! I have seen many of these giant cactus downed by either wind and/or rain - (too much rain cause the soil to become soggy -- like magic: trees up root.) Cactus & desert landscape usually have a short root span -- they do not grow as deep as a "regular tree or bush".....palm trees have a similar root system. They are used to being in a dry soil - when it gets overly wet - - opps - - down they go. Palo Verde Trees are similar. wind and lots of rain can bring these giants down also - -as in that monsoon storm July 2010
