When I moved to AZ I wanted to tell all my friends about it and wrote the following poem. If you want to see the original with pictures, go to

Greetings from the Land of AZ
    August 2009

    I have a heart, I have a brain,
but most important of all I have courage!

I met a lovely lady named Dorothy.
She gave me the name of a family physician

My son is a Wizard at computers
and has several in his office.

I have met many members of DIL's family.
    There isn’t an Auntie Em,
but there are lots of other aunts.

There aren't any witches in this Utopia,
    but people are arriving daily
from the east & from the west.

If there was a Scarecrow, he would frighten the
Cactus Wrens (state bird), squirrels, & quail.

The Cowardly Lion is in the zoo,
but there are coyotes and wild rabbits.

My grandchildren are some of the Munchkins here.

    Instead of Ruby Slippers,
I wear sandals – nearly all the time!

The Yellow Brick Road has been paved over
and is now a freeway. Roundabouts are popular.

My escape from WA was via an airplane
    not a Hot Air Balloon.

    I haven’t seen a dog named Toto.
I think that is what I will call my cat.
Or maybe I will get a bird!

    Tornados are a rare occurrence,
    but monsoons arrive in July.

My former home was near the Emerald City,
    home of the Mariners
who have spring training in Arizona

I am now in my new home
    Somewhere Over the Rainbow

    THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

Thanks for sharing, Peg. Having grown up in Kansas, I can appreciate the references.
