Piclkeball Heaven

    Dateline Sunday, March 28, 2015. 11;45 am.

    Just left the newly remodeled Marinette Recreation Center in Sun City AZ. It was tough finding a parking space as the Slam pickleball tournament was in full swing. It was day three, with mixed doubles today, men yesterday and women on Friday.

    Somewhere beteew 350 and 400 players had signed in, with the majority coming from outside Sun City. It was the perfect opportunity to showcase the 20 court facility and was getting rave reviews. The only real complaint was the need to get sun screens around the entire perimeter of the indoor pavilion courts. Once that is done, we may well need to upgrade the lighting.

    That said there was enormous interest in the community. We know historically whenever we get outsiders to visit, there is almost always an instant attraction. But then what's not love?

    Sun City is easily the most unique age restricted community in the country. And as we look at the explosion of the game of pickleball, we quickly come to understand why is it so: when we indentify a need, we go out and fill it. How does it get any better than that?
