My husband and I are hoping to be in Sun City later this year (Phase I or II area). We currently live in CT and are in our late 50's. We are looking forward to it! Patty and Dave
I'm new to the forum too. You will beat me to Sun City but maybe we'll catch up one day. I'm late 50's as well.
Awesome gang to hear you will be joining our community. There's so much to love here it's hard to begin to tell you where to start. Phase 1 had mostly properties built in the 60's (though some of them near Sun City Country Club were from the 70's). Phase 2 began in 1969 and they moved above Bell RD (Phase 3) beginning in 1974. There always been a harangue about one phase being better than the other, but for my money I find Phase 2 to be the most convenient. It's located smack dab in the middle of the community, thereby making either end more assessable. Truth is it doesn't matter much, find a house you like and start making plans on what you want to do with it in the coming years. We've owned our home for 14 years now, living in it for the past ten. Every year we do a little bit to it as we place our stamp on it. As I type, the tools are toiling away in the background on a major kitchen renovation. Just part of the joy of living here eh?
hahah. I've been remodeling and fixing my current house for 20 years. I'm hoping I don't have to do too much once I buy there.
B I have a question for you. I see a house now that I am considering making an offer. My friends say it's 4-5 years from my retirement and I should wait. I know you bought ahead. Did you think you made an error doing that, to buy years ahead or in hindsight was it still the best thing to do? Thanks, cynthia
Buy now Cynthia! 100% the best move we ever made with investments was to buy before we got here. Prices are just starting to climb, a trend that will continue for years to come. We are in the process of filming the video for the new marketing website and by this falls launch we will be telling the Sun City story more effectively than ever before. Sun City is positioned to become the best value in age restricted communities in the country...the most amenities at the least cost...and that is just for starters. Don't hesitate, start shopping and if you buy a single family home you can rent it out in the winter months and cover most of your yearly costs.
I'm 60 this year I just need to save a bit more before I move. But I do have the money to buy so I think I am going to do. Thanks B and Emily for your encouragement.
Welcome HACESOL to Talk of Sun City!! Great to have you... This is a great site to meet people before you come and understand all your looking forward to in Sun City!!
For anyone considering buying in the near future, I agree with the other postings...there is no time like the present. We look forward to making new "young" friends!
The house we are living in was one of the very original houses in Sun City, bought in 1960 by my husband's aunt, we inherited it in the late 90's and rented it for many years as we really never had any intention of moving there, but thought keeping the house would be a good investment.....that has proven to be true.....but for more than economic reasons. We would spend a few weeks a year in Sun City, to open the house up in the fall for the renters and to close it again in the spring. Sun City grew on us, and when we finally retired we realized that spending the winters in snow and cold, shoveling feet of snow, dealing with the hassle of plowing our road.....well there was more to life than that. We spent our first winter in Sun City in 2008, we have watched the value of our home rise.....and then fall....and it's on the rise again. This is definitely as good a time to buy as any, as baby boomers continue to look for affordable retirement options, like Bill, I see Sun City perfectly poised to give them exactly what they want.
I'm trying to play the game of buy in SC now and sell my current home in few years when prices rise. Nerve racking game it is.
I've owned my place for 20 years and put a lot into it. So I need a bit more. But if it comes to that, I'm still moving to SC.
