Penny Wise Thrift Store is Closing after 32 years. Article in the Independent was very vague. Sun Health Foundation closing its doors after 40 years here in Sun City and consolidating with its other store in Sun City West. "BY KTAR.COM PHOENIX — Sun Health Foundation plans to close its Resale Boutique in Sun City at the end of the month, ending a 40-year run. The boutique, located at 9843 W. Bell Road in the Campana Square Shopping Center, first opened its doors in 1984. Sun Health has decided to close the Sun City location and consolidate to its other location in Sun City West because of rising costs of rent and operations." Loved those two shops.
Have looked, but not able to find the reason Pennywise is closing. Tuesday Morning closed all stores. Depending on what happens with the grocery stores appears retail may be a thing of the past here in Sun City.
I believe it's closing because the property owner wouldn't renew the lease? Same reason why Mighty Moos ice cream shop in Youngstown is forced to close.
I heard that. 32 years, it's sad. Someone said Tuesday Morning is coming back, however they closed all their stores in May 2023. So many places closing. Just read Avon is done along with another cosmetics company. Seems like 1 per day now. Most of the little strip malls are half empty here. SHF went to SCW and so did that Mexican restaurant by Fry's on Grand.
The Independent said the forced Pennywise closing was to accommodate the coming of a corporate retail store. With the Pennywise store being right next to the closed Tuesday Morning, I wonder if the proposed retail store will occupy both spaces? The one thing I like about SCW is the fact they have all that local variety of stores. Seems like every time space becomes available in SC we get another dentist or hearing aid store? If the RCSC's Long Range Planning Committee were to get their act together, they would figure out a way to work with the local Chamber of Commerce and try to make SC more shopping friendly? Just my opinion!
I have said for years Sun City looks like a giant Medical Office Building. I love the shops, restaurants and huge farmers market in Sun City West. Have been helping a neighbor which means spending many hours in waiting rooms and hospitals. I took a lot of flack for wanting to move to SCW and bidenomics got in the way so I can't. I did find this little ditty on this site about SCW while waiting and scrolling. It made me laugh. I think the part about SCW is towards the bottom.
