12 licorice.jpg Today, April 12, 2014, is National Licorice Day.

Licorice is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which a somewhat sweet flavor can be extracted. The licorice plant is a legume that is native to southern Europe and parts of Asia.

It is also National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.

A grilled cheese is often heated by placing the buttered slices of bread,
with the cheese between the slices, on a frying pan or griddle.
