In case you hadn't noticed, i'm not good about tip-toeing around stuff; perhaps one of the reasons my wife calls me the bull. In any event, i just watched the RCSC board meeting from this Thursday past and was damned proud of the 7 board members who approved the formation of the LGBT club. A friend called me and asked about how to start the club and i cautioned they would get some push back by some in the community. She said she expected it, but felt it was an important enough issue to take a little heat. I was awaiting the posting of the meeting before sharing my sentiments regarding the comments i heard were made, because second hand info is just that. The RCSC did a good job of posting just the comments from the mic, which is a good thing. I did hear some of the background noise was quite rude and crude. To those who spoke against it, that's what free speech is all about. I would take exception to suggest being gay or lesbian is somehow deviant behavior, to each their own (thank god they are the minority). To the gentleman (i'm being kind here) who reported he couldn't go to the Bell Rec Center because of all of the the perversion going on in the locker room (he wasn't clear if it was between men/men, women/men) by all means report it and have those perverts arrested (gives head a really good shake). Two points beyond this vote on the club: My mother died in Dec. and i am the executor and have been tied up since her passing. There was no way possible for me to make the meeting, as much i as i wanted to be in the room. The fact it is posted on line was a godsend for me, and i suspect for countless others who couldn't or didn't make the meeting. Thank you for that. The last point is more important (IMHO). You guys (the RCSC) are almost there. I will tell you, i would never have found the video without a poster from this site telling me where to look. We know this about web pages: The more times a person has to click, the more folks you lose looking. In this case, it's far worse. I had no clue what the youtube logo looked like and even that was posted on the bottom of the page. If you truly want this to work, put a direct direct link to the youtube channel at the top of the site and that they can view the meetings there. In closing: Thanks again to the 7 board members (1 absent, 1 abstention) voting for the club. Thanks to the RCSC for posting the meetings. And a special thanks to those who spoke in favor of the club in an open forum.
Yes a link is good. Here is the direct link to that meeting. Also if you can sign in to youtube, subscribe to the Sun City, Az channel and check to be notified of new posting. You will get an email when new videos are posted. Here are steps and a screenshot of the steps. First search on Youtube for Sun City, Az: Here's that link Sun City AZ - YouTube 1. Click Subscribe 2. Click on the Bell. A pop-up window will appear 3. Click on the Notification box. 4. Click Save 5. Scroll to the bottom and choose the video by date. Here is a screen shot if it helps
People need to think about it this way: Del Webb built a community for seniors. At the point it opened the age was 50 but has changed to coincide with the federal and state statutes of 55. That's the criteria, nothing more, nothing less. Without beating a dead horse, the federal government protects classes of people (sad to think we have to do that) and they are race, creed, color, national origin and sexual preference. Any effort to discriminate against people based on that is asking for a massive law suit. So those who were whining following the meeting about opening the floodgate are simply naive and uninformed. With that said, the board i'm sure passed it because it was the right thing to do for Sun City. In years past, gays and lesbians weren't as excepted as they are today. While on the board i tried to get changes to the marriage exemption for rec cards and was soundly told hell no (this was before it was legal for gays to be married in AZ). That's all changed now. That's a good thing. The bottom line here is clear, we need think about this the way Del Webb did when he built this remarkable community. We exist for seniors to enjoy their remaining years in a community filled with opportunities and that includes clubs that bring people together. The LGBT club will do exactly that, and by the way, they said straight folks will absolutely be welcome. As noted, Sun City is evolving and that's a good thing for all of us.
I think the best place to place the link to the YouTube videos of the meetings is on the same page with the Meeting Minutes/Summary. The direct link would be easily found and used there.
I was just curious when this club will be holding its meetings and where. Anyone know? I would like to turn up and say hello.
The meeting information is listed under the heading of RCSC Social Clubs which also include Mens Club, Womens Club, Singles Club etc. The founder of the LGBT Club said all are welcome.
