Kudos to SCHOA

I know, this was probably the last thread you would have expected from me, given how angry i was by how the Sun City Home Owners Association (SCHOA) treated me months back. Don't get me wrong, i still an steamed by the stupid from the organization, but it is yesterdays news.

I am delighted by the election of the new officers at SCHOA that took place in December. I supported Jim Hunter and Joe Janos during the elections because they both expressed that members should always come before vendors.

I attended their annual membership meeting and the new president, Jim Hunter, did a great job. He handled the bulk of the mic work and was easy to listen to and well spoken. In addition to Jim, Lloyd Maple is the new VP, Richie Miller the secretary and Joe Janos the treasurer. All solid choices and clearly the primary focus will be on compliance and the CC&R's.

Okay, so here is the rest of the story you won't read anywhere: Both SCHOA and the RCSC has had a practice of handing off the the officers positions to the "next in line." Both organizations try to keep the infighting to a minimum.

This year, in both cases, it was absolutely not business as usual. Each of the elections were hotly contested; it was behind closed doors and away from the maddening crowd. That's too bad, because in this humble man's opinion, these kinds of challenges for leadership are truly signs of refusing to just buy the status quo.

SCHOA is still the second most important organization in Sun City and if you don't belong, you should. For $20 it truly is an investment in your future.

Good to know you have positive knowledge of the new SCHOA board (for those of us who do not know anyone).

But are they the "maddening crowd" or the "madding crowd" an often misused phrase. Maddening describes the effect on the observer, while madding (frenzied) describes the crowd itself. The novel/movie was Far From the Madding Crowd. I think you meant madding, as is the SC crowd. While my post is creating a maddening effect.

Unless the SC crowd is creating a maddening effect on the SCHOA board. I imagine they would say yes.

Hey C, good catch. You are spot on regarding the use of madding vs maddening. Funny, after the last year, we should all be aware that words matter; or given how little some folks pay attention, maybe they just don't.

As far as SCHOA is concerned, the further we can get from them thinking they are the Sun City Chamber of Commerce and the closer we can get to them following their governing documents, the better off we will all be.

The word wasn’t so important in this case. I was just having a bit of fun. But I agree with you about SCHOA. Back to basics.
