Admin recently asked me who Ken Meade is/was. I said I thought he was involved in the beginning of Sun City. More information would be appreciated. I googled his name without success. Oh, yeh. There are/were lots of Ken Meades but I could not find any association with retirement communities.
Ken initially worked for DEVCO in the early years selling homes. In later years he broke off and started his own real estate company and for years was the primary realtor in Sun City. Here is a picture of Ken and a copy of his oral history taken by The Del Webb Sun Cities Museum.
Ken Meade moved to Arizona in July 1958 and went to work for Del Webb selling Sun City homes in 1974. He Left Del Webb in May of 1982 to manage a real estate office amd started Ken Meade Realty in October, 1983. There are now many Ken Meade offices.
Del E Webb Development Corp. Webb originally started the company as a separate division and when Sun City was first formed Jim Boswell with the land (two 10,000 acre plots) and Webb became the owners. Originally it was going to be a 50/50 partnership but they ended up with Webb owning 51% and Boswell had 49%.
