Today, July 29, 2013, is National Lasagne Day. Lasagne originated in Italy, in the region of Emilia-Romagna. A traditional lasagne bolognesi is made by layering pasta with sauce, made with ragù, bechamel, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. In other regions and outside of Italy it is common to find lasagne made with ricotta or mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, various meats, and miscellaneous vegetables. In all cases lasagne is oven-baked. It is typically flavored with wine, garlic, onion, and oregano. I like Stouffer's lasagne.
I used to get Braum's vegetable lasagne which was excellent. Stouffer's vegetable is almost as good. When the big sales on family trays are on, I'll get some, cook them up, cut up into meal-size portions and freeze for ease. I tried to duplicate the dish from scratch, but not as good and pretty darn expensive, and a lot of work, so this system works for me.
