We are fortunate to have good medical care, including hospitals, in our community and area. We've gotten great care after getting through the ER. ER was a little problematic in the hours we have spent there, but I understand their unpredictable circumstances. We've always been treated very well in ER, also.
My experience was different. Think they need a better way to isolate folks in the ER by separating those with possibly contagious conditions. After I cleared out from the main ER waiting area, was moved into a smaller inner area like a holding pen that was overflowing with people coughing and looking nauseous, etc. Not good. Hours passed. Stuffy. Would've preferred the outer waiting room where at least there was a window and some space, vending machines, etc. They need to re-think that and develop cubicles or something.
I had a totally different experience in the ER....I had a very low white blood cell count and very, very, low blood pressure, they isolated me immediately for fear of infection, they have small rooms for those they think need it, and kept me as far away from other patients as possible until I was moved to in-patient. In the times I have been there I have been impressed with how well this small, community, hospital works. Contrasting Banner in Sun City with St Anthony's brand spanking new big city hospital here in Denver, Banner comes out the winner (I have been a patient at Banner, my husband recently at St Anthony's in Denver. Banner is far easier to navigate, the pod arrangement makes it easy for patients and guests to find their way around. If you ring for a nurse at Banner, they are trained to have a nurse respond immediately, and they do! At St Anthony's the wait average was 10-20 minutes before a nurse responded. Nurses both places were terrific (I do really admire people who go into the nursing profession), but the plus for those of us over 55 is that Banner has a larger senior population and their nurses definitely understand the issues some older patients face.
