Over the years I've made lots of mistakes. Part of the reason was over the years I was always willing to try and be innovative and open to different ways of looking at almost anything. Some of the outcomes were less than desired because they were just wrong-headed; some were because people around me wanted them to work immediately. When they didn't, we abandoned them, rather than nurturing or tweaking them and giving it a chance to succeed when it well could have. While on the RCSC board, we had occasion to try and be creative (certainly not as often as I wanted), but to the credit of some, we did step up and out. The one that comes to mind was discussed in this thread on Talk of Sun City here: Script...as seen through one man's eyes. It was the backdrop for our work with The Leading Edge Series programing. While some were critical of the project and its costs (something less than $25,000 paid from our Marketing budget), several of us believed it would be money well spent. The initial front end returns were the three spots seen on our marketing website found here. They were used at the new resident orientation and were well received. They also can be seen by anyone visiting the site looking for more in-depth commentary from residents. But the real return on investment is now in the works. Jan asked them to hold off till February to start airing the commercials that came with the package price of doing business with the Leading Edge. I was told the other day one of the spots aired on the Fox Business Chanel, and that is was bang on great. There's any number of other places they will run and hopefully we can get ahold of some of the time slots to try ad catch them playing. Imagine this: sitting with snow up to your window ledges on the East Coast, stuck watching endless hours of cable television because you can't get out of your house and you see this "infomercial" about Sun City AZ. Affordable, warm, clean, and with a million things to do...all outdoors. Almost makes me want to move to Buffalo New York just so I could experience it all over again. There's way more to come, so hold on to your seats and watch how cool this all gets.
