For what it's worth...my opinion.

Following my remarks at the Exchange yesterday a member came over and mentioned what a "shitty job" this board was doing. I get approached often at meetings and rather than trying to hold a conversation i suggested we go out in the hallway and continue the discussion.

I know he was shocked by my response, but i try and be objective when watching from the peanut gallery. After 20 plus years of comparing the good, the bad and the ugly (in person) and another 50 plus years of the RCSC's history that is available, it's easy to be less critical than some, more critical than others.

I know, i often say things at the mic or write stuff here that sounds less than objective. Most often those comments are regarding specif actions rather than an overview of the board or management in total. The other thing i try to refrain from doing is to make it personal.

Having sat on the stage for three very long years, is not an enviable task. Someone has to do it and for those who put up their hands and say "i'll do it," i always applaud them. Whether i agree with their decisions is immaterial other than to voice my pleasure or displeasure with the direction they are taking.

So, with that out of the way, i responded to the comment about the "shitty job" the board was doing with this comment; I think they are actually doing a pretty good job and have no problem telling anyone that. Other than the self-inflicted wounds of occasional bad choices, overall i like what they are doing. Especially in the face of the endless criticism.

The Lakeview PAC debacle the end of 2024 really set the stage for the ugliness that ensued. I understand fully well how and why it happened, but i don't lay that at the feet of those currently on the board. We often see board members, as they are going out the door, try and accomplish the things they believe are/were important to Sun City's future.

If you watch the video from the Exchange, you will see comments chastising a former board member for being solely interested in the MV renovation being nothing more than a cover for all pickleball all the time. That wasn't a fair attack (in my opinion) because the data clearly indicated the need. It went sideways as indoor pickelball was being opened across the valley and thinking we should/could compete with private for-profit businesses opening them set the whole of the SAC process on its side.

So, as we are rapidly approach tonight's annual membership meeting and the frustrations that will come along with the festivities, i want to say this clearly and with no ambiguity: In my opinion this current RCSC board is doing a pretty darn good job. In fact, if they could stop stepping on the rake tines, they would be doing an outstanding job.

    Just one man's opinion.

    Bill,

In comparison to the Boards I sat on I tend to agree on a balanced scorecard basis this has been one of the better boards. Let me explain why. Leadership. President Foster and Vice President Nettesheim have very recently demonstrated that it does no good to hold an in-your-face attitude the way prior officers did. While I am not a huge fan of Treasurer Borski, she recently demonstrated a willingness to listen when she asked the members what they would like to see in the Treasurers report. President Foster recognized that there are significant performance issues with the current GM and is handling them through the proper processes. I agree with Jean that this should be a very short "rope" and may require a written performance improvement plan. It is completely up to the current GM to show improvement.
However, I also recognize that my observations are from one meeting where the Board is facing lawsuits and a membership that is disgusted with their actions not to allow members to vote.
