    AUGUST PROGRAM

STEELIN’ THE NIGHT AWAY – STEEL DRUMS PERFORMANCE
    Thursday, August 15, 10-11 a.m., Arizona Room #1
Steelin’ the Night Away is something unique among steel bands in Phoenix—it’s an all-female volunteer band that donates its earnings to charity. The ladies have been playing together more than eight years. Their repertoire consists of traditional calypso and Caribbean favorites, light rock classics, golden oldies and beach/surf tunes from the ‘60s.

    SEPTEMBER PROGRAMS

    MARIACHI LUZ DEL SUR!
    Tuesday, September 17, 1-2 p.m., Arizona Room #1
Come join in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Mariachi Luz del Sur. This Caballeros band includes some of the most talented musicians in the Southwest. Their ultimate goal is to entertain, educate and to keep alive folkloric traditions and the proud heritage that is Mexico's music!

    PHOENIX ART MUSEUM PROGRAM
    GUEST SPEAKER DOCENT PATRICIA ARTHUR
    Thursday, September 26, 11:00 a.m. - Noon, Arizona Room #1
    PHOENIX ART MUSEUM PROGRAM.
Through an entertaining and educational Power Point presentation, we will learn about Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s greatest artists whose painting style has been described as turbulent, colorful, and folkloric. The speaker will also discuss prominent painter (and the husband of Kahlo), Diego Rivera, whose large wall works in fresco helped establish the Mexican Mural Movement in Mexican art. Both artists are considered controversial—at least partially—because of their political leanings.
