It seems that EPCOR is flushing the waterlines in our area south of Grand Avenue. I'm not sure how wide-scaled the project is but it sure is creating a mess. The back flushing creates an oily brown sludge that goes directly into the clean water pipes. If you have this problem check the inside of your toilet tanks for the residue. This morning the brown water came out of the faucet at my kitchen sink for about 10 seconds and then cleared. I called EPCOR and they just told me to scrub out the sludge and run the cold water before using. They wouldn't say how long this project will last in the area. It is problematic if this sludge is drawn into the hot water heater so I'm not sure how to avoid it from happening. Anyone else notice this happening? :blue:
Thank heavens EPCOR has left the area and we haven't had any problems for the past couple days. This forum has such a small audience that it's hard to know how many residents were affected.
This is the process from the EPCOR website. Unfortunately they don't give you advance warning prior to actually doing this in your area: Water main flushing is part of our maintenance program to remove sediment and to maintain good water quality. This process may temporarily result in cloudy water and/or changes in water pressure. Your water remains safe to use. However, once flushing is complete, we recommend you: Run your outside water tap for approximately 10 minutes or until the water runs clear Flush the tank at the back of the toilets Flush your hot water tank as per manufacturer’s instructions Please check your water supply before doing laundry to avoid possible staining. Thank you for your cooperation.
