When I ran for the Board of RCSC I received over 1800 votes and my friends thought I was crazy for doing it. I was told that was the highest vote count in Sun City history. OK - Toot my horn. Fault me for poor judgement, but the reason I ran is because I had witnessed several boards run themselves ragged trying to control the outcome. (Achieve their agenda) My crazy idea was to let the data do the talking. In that regard I took my roles as committee chair as that of a completely neutral facilitator. I think you can see how I practiced that in the SAC by viewing the committee tapes. I hope those that were on the committees I chaired felt that I was only interested in promoting a full and robust discussion of the merits of various proposals. I wanted to gain the benefit of committee member's input.
John, There’s a significant personal commitment made when one decides to run and serve on the board. Being a person of integrity and moral character definitely makes that person a valuable asset to the organization. Please know and trust your decisions and actions were made with the best intentions for the governance of this community. The work you did to assist in the development of the community was a most valuable service and helped shape what the community can achieve.
