This morning there was a cockroach in one of my bathrooms. He was belly up so I presume he was dead. Just in case he was playing possum I got out my bug spray to help him go to where ever dead bugs go. I have the inside of my condo sprayed in the spring and again in the fall. I guess it works. My association gets a special price for spraying once a month outside. It costs me $4 for each inside spraying. The name of the company is Amera.
After I first moved in, I would find giant water bugs coming up from the laundry room drain--very nasty--even scared the dogs. After asking around a lot, discovered that if a house is vacant and the sink traps are dry, you may experience these visitations. I don't use that sink much, but at least once a week I now run water in it. Five yrs later, haven't had another problem. I understand if people live in condos the decision to spray or not has to be a communal decision, but I'd encourage others to try to discover the source of the problem and fix that rather than outright resorting to poisons. No poison is really safe. Actually, I think this is such a worthwhile topic, and since I've worked with a florist and greenhouse and actually put some of the tips into practice there, I'll start two new threads to make for easy reference--one on pesticide and one on herbicide alternatives and we can share what has worked for us, what we've read, links, etc. Will put it in Non Sun City forum though since it isn't limited to our community. Thanks for raising this.
