I think it is obvious this Board has been making PIF decisions with the GM behind closed doors. I hope they are good decisions that benefit the majority of members.

It appears there are at least four distinct mindsets in Sun City. It also appears none of them matter. The BOD is going to do what the BOD will do. Nothing or no one else matters.

I saw it in the LRP summary from 6/18. That's the only place I saw it.

Well...from what I've learned by attending meetings of both, the F&B nd LRP, and before being asked to leave so they can go into executive session to talk more about the details of the T-bird property and negotiations; I've learned that the asking price was 3.2 million but because the RCSC would have to demolish 2 of the pods to accommodate county parking regulations, the RCSC is offering 2.7 million. And I believe the RCSC is now only waiting for a response to their offer.

That's about all I know, or they are allowing us to know?

I'm just curious what we will learn now that the Board is in their 2 month hiatus? And will the Membership get an opportunity to comment on the transaction should the offer be accepted, or will we one day open up an RCSC e-mil blast only to be told they have purchased the property?

From the summary of the June 18, LRP committee:

"Purchase of Property at 111th and Thunderbird: A bid has been submitted. Waiting for a response. Some ideas were discussed on possible use of the property and phasing the demolition and remodeling of the property over a couple of years. Combining use of the property in conjunction with the remodeling of the Lakeview property had possibilities. Moving the Corporate Offices out of Lakeview while the remodeling was being done would incur rental costs and/or bringing in temporary trailers would incur additional costs as well. Those extra temporary costs could be offset by a permanent move to the Thunderbird property. The Thunderbird property would become the hub for all RCSC Member services with one place to go for everything."

Nothing much more we can do other than wait for more information to be divulged.

My observation is the members will be informed of major decisions and not involved. This board clearly has a you scratch my back I will scratch yours thing going on.

OMG!! Best belly laugh to start the week!!! What are these so called "Corporate Offices"? Sounds like they are comparable to the Houston campus of ExxonMobil!!!

I seem to remember, back from the days in which I followed this stuff, that there were a few areas of BoD discussions that did not have to be public and these included personnel issues and real estate ones. I wonder if that's true here, now, or whether the BoD can just do what ever it wants to.

The meeting minutes are on the RCSC website for all to see! Haven't you been watching? Libraries, architect for MV, now bid on T-Bird. I think those two realtors were right!

I think it is highly likely there will be member discord out of all of these actions. My understanding of our process is any expenditure with a life of greater than 15 years and cost of greater than $300,000 must be approved by the Board and then subject to a competitive bid process. Two readings at duly called board meetings are required. Makes sense that you can't go through a competitive bid process until you have approval of the funds. So what did the Board approve for Quail Run - A bid that must have occurred before the project was approved because the Board voted to approve a specific bid. And where were the other bids? Who knows if there were any. And who is front and center on all of this - Director Kise.

Not sure about that. I thought possibly with the library, a big maybe with the EV stations. a so-so with T-Bird, no indications re MV. Turns out it really will not matter unless someone starts some kind of petition/action against the board. I read in the site that they are not adhering to the bylaws. That is a huge issue, yet nothing. I did try and got some interest but it fizzled out.

I have offered before but was sidelined. My executive assistant skills are still top notch, but no one will ever know as all were preconditioned as to how I should be perceived. Don't have time now anyway, I have always been an advocate for low income seniors, and with the resources I acquired working for Sun Health and my connections with Benevilla that is where my time is being spent. I will be joining Olive Branch Sr. Center soon to help with services for our low income seniors through Banner. Lord knows Sun City Foundation is no help. Someone on this site made that very clear. Now that my friend is pretty comfy in his situation now I will be looking forward to actually helping the below poverty level folks with Banner's help. Keep those gift cards locked up nice and tight in that safe now. People probably didn't need food last holiday season anyway.

Things started to go South here around 2006 or 5. Mom and I talked about it quite a bit. She was very involved in her areas of interest.

Am I correct in understanding that the Thunderbird property is still in play?

Your guess is as good as everybody else's!

I have not heard or read anything.

So much for transparency and communications.

Has anything been resolved with the library leases?

Summer break, oh wait! Wasn't the library lease due 6/30/24? Prior to the summer break?

I would say that until said property is sold, it is still in play. Though at one of the meetings this summer it was mentioned the sellers were not interested in the offer from RCSC. More should be revealed when the RCSC meetings kick up again in September. I am not privy to any inside information so take what I say as conjecture not fact. Can hardly wait for the September meetings!

After what I just experienced with my elderly neighbor we could use a small rehab center, part self pay, with certified rehab people and some low level care for bathing and dressing. No I am not saying RCSC should buy for that purpose but it would be nice if someone did. This poor guy was crying, no family here, T-Bird hospital was horrid, no home care for over a week. I wonder how many other people like him live here?

To clarify, affordable self pay for short periods of time, not subsidized. 24 hour home care costs on an average $40/hour to $65/hour. Low end $1k/day. A small facility may be able to provide short term care for less.

Even back when I started work for Sun Health Personal Care Services in 2001 the cost per month was approximately $17k.

Not according to the the September issue of Sun City UPDATE?

RCSC Updates: Library Lease, PAC Relocation, and Thunderbird Property Negotiations

    Library Lease Still Under Review
RCSC has been in ongoing discussions with the Maricopa County Library District (MCLD) regarding the library lease. The MCLD has submitted the latest lease document to their legal department for review. We will keep you informed as developments occur.

Performing Arts Center (PAC) Location Review RCSC has partnered with triArc for the Mountain View / PAC Project and is currently exploring different locations to potentially relocate the Performing Arts Center (PAC) to better serve the community’s needs. triArc is evaluating several potential sites for the new PAC location.

Thunderbird Property Update This spring, RCSC engaged in discussions with the broker for the property at 111th Ave & Thunderbird. After multiple rounds of negotiation, we submitted our best and final offer to the seller. The seller declined our offer, and as a result, we have concluded the negotiations.Together, we can make these spaces vibrant, useful, and reflective of our community’s spirit.

Another option would be a nonprofit helping to pay the cost for care. I know some churches that do that.
