Today, December 30, 2013, is National Bicarbonate of Soda Day. Bicarbonate soda is the same as baking soda. Both of them refer to a white solid that is crystalline but often appears as a fine powder. It is mainly prepared by the solvay process and is primarily used in baking, as a leavening agent. It is also used in an aqueous solution as an antacid taken orally to treat acid indigestion and heartburn after a meal such as beans.
