I googled AEDs. Are they automatic (something) Defribulators.
Today I will call rec center and ask and will call library too.

I think it's a good idea to have AEDs in every public facility, most especially in communities that cater to over 55's. They are remarkably simple to use, even if you have never used or even seen one. Simple instructions are printed where you can't miss them.....but yes, staff should be familiar with those instructions.

Did you find out any information on the availability of these Peg?

You should have training before you use one, but they are very simple. They talk to you and tell you what to do. If you called 911 I'm sure they would walk you through it too. CPR classes generally include them now in training.

FYI, people have a misconception that when someone's heart stops you apply the defibrillator and shock it back to life. Not true. TV shows (who want the drama I suppose)made people think this. You only use the AED (defibrillator) if the person still has a heartbeat but the rhythm is irregular. If the heart has stopped completely you must use compressions (CPR) to bring it back.

Sadly many nurses have also been influenced by TV, even though they regularly take CPR classes. I know that sounds strange but it is very true.

The good part is AEDs will not allow you to shock the heart if the person does not have a heart beat. It will tell you to start compressions. Then if the heart starts beating, but it is still irregular, it will tell you to apply the shock.
