    Here's the facts Dave:
The main portion of the auditorium, with retractable tiered seating units, can accommodate 352 seats in (4) separate units. The remaining flat floor space, using identical style seats, can accommodate an additional 300 seats.

The units I looked into are motorized units so they do not have to be bolted to the floor, and when retracted, and moved up against the back wall, only occupies 4'-6" of floor space. I don't believe even Bingo sets up their tables that close to the back wall.

As far as the Player's performances go, the center section can be set-up using the retractable seating units with 352 seats and the units can be moved as close to the stage as they want. I don't believe their performances attract more than that, but if they do, just set-up the removable seats, which should probably also be used to satisfy ADA requirements.

As far as the 20 paid concerts go, once again, they can set-up the center section of the auditorium with the retractable seating units and removable seating, and leave the East and West wings just the same as they always do, which is with tables and chairs.

For less $1 million dollars I can get you (4) retractable seating units providing 352 seats, and an additional 300 same type seats that comes with their own trolleys used for storage.

Add 3 -4 million dollars for some renovations and storage areas, and you can have a theater for half the cost of building one at MV. Not too mention, the Players will get their theater 3 years sooner and can use the existing building at MV until it needs to be demolished!

Let's get real, Sun Dial was originally built to accommodate performances. It was built with a stage, a second floor control room, acoustically designed features and a Ticket Booth! Does it make sense to duplicate all that at another location?

Read my post up above! Just build a simple building at MV.

    I
I have to say Bill, I think maybe you’re taking off the blinders as to this board’s blatant disregard for the members. This latest episode just confirms that 5 people will decide the future of Sun City.

    Dave,

Thank you for your continued role in RCSC governance. My position is the PAC is a black swan as well. The Board I was on for a mercifully short period believed RCSC should spend a million or so on a favored architect to prove the PAC was a black swan and then move the PAC to Lakeview like the Board president wanted and build an indoor dog facility. I do not respect your uninformed judgement and nasty sarcasm. If you have the guts, check with Tom or Gary on the seating capacity with retractable seating. They had the guts to get the real information. Do you?

Thanks again for making a vocation out of recreational governance. May I ask, what you think the right thing to do for Sun City is?

    John,

Why didn’t they present information like this in the beginning and wait until I posed a basically a mathematical question? Of course a late answer is better than no answer at all.

    Dave,

Many of us tried to present information but were shot down. AB and KM were not in favor of the approach.

Could have posted here, nicht wahr?
    John,
Can the PAC right now. This amenity will be the gift that will keep on demanding things. Car club is perfect example. They asked for $1M in improvements I believe last year or the year before. The Players will do the same and why do they need a rehearsal stage, good Lord!
What are we doing for preparing for GenX which the earliest members have turned 58. Vision other than Stevie Wonder would be real useful right now. From what I have read on GenX and talked to some, nothing we are planning interests them in the little. Some clubs are dying a slow death and other are entering that phase, so we will space that needs to be repurposed in the future. Consequently we need help from our younger residents who are tuned in to what these and the following is looking for.

I have realized recently that I am getting too old for some of this volunteer work and willing to give it up to younger people to fight in the trenches. I look forward to taking better care of myself and helping take care of the SO as long as I can as some debts can never be repaid, so what I think is the right thing to do is really irrelevant.

Caring for your SO is an act of generosity and love. I am sure she reciprocates when possible. Giving up the hold on politics will free you up for better challenges moving forward. You are a person of integrity and honesty and you will shine in your new chosen endeavor, as well will your SO.

    Dave,

I know you're feeling about the VVSC club. I am a member so I enjoy the facility, BUT, future residents may not. As far as I know the club requested air conditioning which cost less than $250k until a certain now resigned board member got involved and insisted RCSC put in less efficient swamp coolers. But still, it is a big facility that has only 600 members. All the equipment inside the building is maintained by the members. Big difference from a theater which the 100 member Player's Club is expecting the members to pay to maintain the equipment. OUCH! And finally, if the VVSC club ever goes defunct, the building is an ideal maintenance building for RCSC. Big difference in risk profile. And that does not even touch upon the at least $17M more RCSC will spend on a theater than it did on the VVSC facility.

    CM,
As you are undoubtedly aware, the SO has spent her time in Dave’s medical hell and I will spend the rest of my life trying to repay the debt. As she says to me from time to time besides be quiet, this is what you do.
